Picking up a new hobby... Lock Picking. 1

Anyone ever get into lock picking? I’ve always liked puzzles and this one seems like one of those things that having a little know how could maybe pay off one day. I know how pin locks work and all that so how hard could it be? Plus, if I get good at the shit I can just put an ad in the paper undercutting legit locksmiths and make a little side bank. Win win...

I watched some random videos on the youtube. Locks can be picked fairly quickly, I was quite surprised.
Some fairly complex mechanisms, some of which if picked, may destroy a lock.

Give it time. That's why new locks are invented.

It doesn't matter how old the lock is it's the construction. There are brand new gun locks meant to hold those ARs some cops have in their cruisers and they can be defeated by a ceramic magnet. You could unlock it like 40-50 times a minute by just slapping the magnet on in the right place and that's what your popo roll around with on the daily.
Nita check out the LockPickingLawyer on YouTube. Picking locks is a lot like a puzzle. Just have the right tools and think outside the box. I'm not sure how much those tools would be but you could probably get fairly diverse kits.

Yeah I was thinking that’s going to be the hardest part trying to find locks that I don’t mind if I screw up + I really want to figure out ignitions so I may have to hit up the junkyard and see if I can find some cheap ones.

Word I’ll definitely check that out. As far as finding kits this place seems like the best spot I’ve found so far..

Yeah I messed around with it a bit and was able to open some locks. You can make picks out of hacksaw blades and a tensioner out of an allen key. With some hacksaw blades the body of the blade is spring steel.

I once had a lock smith come unlock my motorbike. He stuck a blank into the key slot and wiggled it around. Then pulled out and looked at where tiny scratches were on the blank. The he ground down the spots with scratches on metal file until the key worked. He never even asked if it was my bike.

Its good to learn how to burglarize houses or even better commercial businesses. I bet I could break into ur house rn no problem would have to case the place for like 2 minutes. Thats the thing most nirmal people have bo idea how burglars think at all. U go up to a thing look at like 50 expencive locks and all kinda shit. U go huh thats cute they prob have a ton good shit to steal look to the left shimmy up a thing cut hole in a screen rob everything in the joint. Load up all thier shit into thier car and drive off. Normal people don't know how to think like a smart criminal but even ur average criminal knows how to think like some idiot.

I'm pretty ok at anything that isn't ultra high security

Im unaware of any lock that gets destroyed from picking. Got an example

Yes they are. Especially kwickset and schlage even with their security pins

Bumping still works on a shitload of homes with sc1 and kw1 keyways. Also you can rake those locks faster than using the actual key in most circumstances.

There are definitely locks that break or require taking apart as a security feature but we're talking high security stuff. If I remember correctly either the pins themselves are made to give out or there is like a trigger mechanism that locks the pins or even preventing the lock from being turned. They don't get destroyed though these are like several hundred dollar locks.

Here's that video on the AR lock I was talking about. Like 400,000 of them out there and the saddest part is he has a few similar videos with different gun locks being used by law enforcement.

Like i thought none get destroyed. Some high security cores like assa have some high security measures but nothing that stops a highly skilled picker or lets anyone know it was picked or attempted to be picked

I have bounced around the idea of how it would be perceived if I ever got pulled over and my car tossed (which never happens) and they found the picks. I would bet they’d ask me what I’m using them for if they recognized what they are. I have a boatload of tools in my car too = burglar
I’ve chatted with a few Pop A Lock guys and they have shit you’re not even allowed to own as a ‘civilian’...
@ Bodhi, I’ve not heard of any locks that self destruct but I’m learning wafer style locks and things like car ignitions are really easy to break if you get rough with them. Other than that I’ve seen locks with side pins that would be hard to get through but from what Im seeing it it’s a lock it can be gotten through.
The only one I’ve not seen someone demonstrate on is the locks that have a 3D sort of key that instead of lifting the pins it spins them. I’m not quite sure how you could get through that but I bet someone could..

Medeco is the most common in the US with rotating pins. Can be picked but I can't do it
Quote:
Medeco's lock design features lock pins that are "chisel tipped" which can only be rotated by keys with correspondingly angled cuts. This serves to increase the difficulty of key reproduction. A slot along the length of the pin causes the sidebar to drop once the pin has been rotated to its correct orientation. The off-centre chisel tip also allows 2 different offsets to the pin. The theoretical number of unique key combinations is over two million when using a lock with six pins, six heights, three rotational positions, and two pin tip angles

Windshield wipers have nice long metal strips. Get some sand paper, wire cutters and make your picks and a wrench. Good times. No need to buy anything. Fuck go steal someone’s windshield wiper make a pick set while drinking beer in their front yard then kick their door in and steal their shit.

I ended up getting a inexpensive set that had the half diamond I specifically wanted and a raker, wafer pick and a few odds and ends that should cover all the bases for pin locks. If I happen to have ‘the touch’ I may invest a little further but I got pretty much everything I was looking to get for $15 shipped. Not bad for a hobby investment, usually they’re a little more painful. If I get into it I’ll probably end up going the MacGyver route and trying all sorts of wacky shit just to see if it works though. Windshield wipers are everywhere + if I really clue into this everything I see will probably start being evaluated on whether it could become a pick or not..

Yeah those are the ones. There’s a few Youtube videos of people showing how to get around them but it looks a little harder than what it appears, if you know what I mean. One guy took a rake and just scrambled it around for awhile and it ended up working so maybe there’s some luck involved in it..

People call me when they're locked out but I couldn't make a job out of it. I'm proficient at most pin tumbler locks but not an expert by any means. Medeco is above my abilities for example. Those masterlock 410 lockout tag-out locks are probably the most difficult lock I can reliably pick. 6 pins all pins are security pins.

Here's a 410 I milled away part of the bible down to the shear line. This is probably the hardest thing you'd encounter that you're actually going to open for someone. Better locks are securing armories and mail.
I'll make another and send you one if you are actually interested in trying it out.
Also, You can buy a few things like a clip remover. A follower, and then some pins. Also tweezers for locks that hold pins well. You can then rekey the lock making it easier or more difficult. Or just different
Key in Key partially in And no key

Decryption is the real lock challenge. It's like super easy if you get a rapid wave scanner. Like runs probable frequencies per model and year of the presumably, car you intend to open. Could take a few minutes to reach the right line of code once you receive the denied ones. You are strictly dependant on how many model algorithms you have. As for getting a list of manufacturer codes, that's a little bit of a different kind of lock picking, it's all hacking. Digital or physical binary key pinning.
Like these are my favorite to do.

Drip some nitroglycerin into the safe lock with a syringe. Bang the lock with a hammer. (eye & ear protection!) If it didn't open, there is now room for more nitro.

Squirt a can of lighter butane into the card slot of the ATM machine. make a wick to the card slot with cord and gasoline. as the vapor explosion pushes the ATM into the street, grab the cash cassettes and run

you shouldnt practice on important locks, when we were teenages we played around with lockpicking, we practiced on the same lock for weeks, by the end the lock was so worn out you could open it with any key and a little shaking

Wut lol. Locks are made to take 100,000 cycles or more and pics are not as damaging as the key itself

I mean if you're raping the lock with a metal pick you might scratch up a driver pin but you wont change its length so the key would still work.

Have definitely seen locks worn by picks. Steel picks rubbing on brass is going to do something vs a key made of brass that actually has a little lead In it for smooth cutting.
Not going to happen instantly but have you ever seen an electric pick gun you can see the brass particles flying out of the key way.
Also not destroyed but have seen locks stop working from dislodged master pins from over vigorous picking.

You guys are still making me paranoid. Do I need motion detectors and cameras and shit facing all my locks? Trap doors? Seriously what would it take to actually deter this type of behavior? Perhaps a draw bridge?

Cameras would help. but more secret holdings, and trapdoors to dungeons with the secret government LSD project.

Most of your common combo locks are cake to get through too.
UPDATE!!!
I have practiced and become proficient in picking security pins, so spool, serrated, and mushroom pins are no problem. So far the hardest lock I’ve found is this dinky Master Lock that you could break by flicking it but the reason it’s hard is because there’s so little range between over tension and under tension and it’s hard to keep the pins from popping back.
If any of yawl like puzzles I bet you would get into this. It’s hella inexpensive too.
