I mean I've seen some scary accidents with gasoline but not that kinda trauma.
Just a further point of how PTSD associations work. And why fireworks are a big deal to combat vets. They trigger those types of instinctive associations.

a couple years ago me and the gf went out to watch the fireworks the city puts on, we found a bench a little ways off on the edge of some brush, it was dark and something came springing out of the brush, it was a small dog, so I grabbed it, now im holding this spooked dog and dont know what to do, we dont drive or even have a phone, we start walking back towards her place and there is a guy looking for his dog, me and him were both relieved , him that he found his dog, me that I didnt have to figure out what to do with this dog, but why would you bring an animal to watch fireworks, much less let it off a leash

I remember reading about a guy in maine who shot a mortar off from his head killing himself in front of whole family.
What is weird is rockets down to bottle rockets and m80s are not allowed but mortar is a okay.
Mortar can only safely be used at least 100 feet away from people, mortar secured on level ground with a cinder block, insert shell carefully, light wick and run. Duds get bucket of water or hose. Mortar allowed to cool in between shots to prevent early ignition.
Seriously cool but as dangerous as a high caliber firearm.
Interestingly the boston marathon bombers purchased mortar shells but found the small charge inadequate. Pretty sure this is why they went from rockets to mortars.
P.s. i have fired report shells from a shotgun, basically went out a distance and made a loud bang.

Actually how about don't hold explosives in your hands whilst attempting to set them off? This usually tends to be 99.9999% of the cause of people blowing their hands off with fireworks.
There's a lot of "personal" fault there in that original story. There's a lot of responsibility to be taken when you are dealing with such devices as well.
With any explosive display there are inherent risks, however a professional setup tends to be extremely safe for crowds (as they are not interacting with the devices and are usually not allowed within a certain radius of the display).

Interesting story but naa its not "buying fireworks" fault that he did exactly what you should not do and went back up to an un-exploded firework. Lit every fireworks box on the planet has a warning not to do this.
Its a bit like saying don't buy a car cuz I saw someone get drunk and drive into a tree. yeah. That guy was an idiot and if he didn't do that then it would of been something else similarly stupid.
I had a friend who tried to build an explosive by hammering the metal pipe shut back in the 80's and blew himself up. He lived with minor injuries luckily but some people just always learn the hard route through sheer hubris and ego.
TBH he lived then that was his big wake up call and every day alive is a blessing now. I bet he doesn't suffer from any depression lol.

The actual problem here is we should not be celebrating America.
America is the most evil nation that ever existed.
Fuck America, fuck your patriotism and fuck the troops.

Asante said: I absolutely love lighting fireworks, its a spiritual experience for me. I make a wish on every one I light.
Now, they want to ban it. They even went so far as to ban firecrackers and bottle rockets.
I am EXTREMELY dismayed by this.
Ever since early childhood I enjoyed lighting em, and I will continue to light them after the ban
They want to replace it with fireworls shows.
THAT IS THE SAME AS REPLACING HAVING ACTUAL SEX WITH WATCHING A PORN VIDEO
They are fucking it up for the children and they are fucking it up for the many adults who grew up with fireworks and just love them to bits!
I advocate a total ban on alcohol just to fuck with these fuckers who want to spoil all fun fpor others. Dont really want that but fuck.
Listen up, listen up.
Smokers are turned into pariahs. Cat owners are told to not let cats outside. They are going to prohibit fireworks.
They are destroying all liberties and instead of allowing each other more freedom the people themselves choke each other into complete silence.
I want my fireworks dammit
Beautiful post, and yes, I agree.
Nothing is compared to lighting the fuse on a big boom.
I mean there are side-step comparisons like drugs, sex, etc, but I've always been a fire man.
But I also love horses, my hands, and living in a land without wildfires.
So I will make this ONE SIMPLE SACRIFICE to avoid such tragedies,
and just sit from a distance as the main firework shows happen.
And then secretly evaporate my own urine to make homemade blackpowder with the other 2 ingredients like the Chinese did .
JK Black powder is easy to come by around here at the store. But that stuff is SO FUN.
But once again I will make a sacrifice for my own pleasure to avoid much larger negatives.
At least if you're making your own fireworks that is different. But buying up Chinese made stuff in the big box stores is just facepalm material.
Thank you!

I haven't fucked with fireworks since a rocket randomly changed trajectory at about 25ft up and shot into my neighbor's truck and exploded.
No major damage and everyone was okay but it was scary how it just randomly changed direction.
This is why professional city sponsored fireworks displays shoot from very empty places like fields or massive parking lots or state fairgrounds. Ours fires from an island in the river.
And they keep the ones not ready to go in protected boxes to prevent this
