Hey I have been intrested in mycology since I was a kid. I looked online and found classes on mycology for $400. I might start taking classes soon but I was wondering what are some good books about mushrooms. I am trying to learn as much as I can so I can hopefully get a job as a mycologist someday. I am genuinely intrested in mycology and I love finding mushrooms I just dont understand how to identify them. Thanks for the help.

My favorite is the Audubon guide to mushrooms, it taught me a lot as a noob

That said, “mycology jobs” are kind of a pipe dream

Thanks ill definitely check it out. I actually thought about going to school for microbiology and im just going to do mycology for a hoby. They teach you to geniticly modify microorganisms so mabey one day I can invent new strains of mushrooms. But ya I didn't find a lot of mycology jobs so I think im going to give microbiology a try. Thanks for the help though you saved me $400 ill definitely check it out.

I'm not sure if this book is region specific but it's got a ton of great information: 100 Edible Mushrooms by Michael Kuo.

I got the book and its really helpful thanks for the recommendation. I had no idea all the types of amnita mushrooms. I was looking though it and it turns out poisoness mushrooms grow all over I have found several poison mushrooms while hunting in the woods. Also found a couple bird nest mushrooms and puffballs never knew what they were.. I also found the section on polypores and shelfike mushrooms interesting I found lots of them and never knew they were actually mushrooms. Thanks a lot this is exactly what I was looking for.

here's a link to a great online resource. don't forget about using your phone when out hunting, it's lighter than carrying a book. https://www.mushroomexpert.com/
