A strange grow

So I never got a picture of the spawn but when I got some spores for corona time, I germinated some TX PE6 and when I went to do 1st transfers I nocc'd up 7 grain jars with wedges from the germ plates.
They grew very very slow and I gave them a shake around 15% just to see what that would do. They did recover but the myc was very gray and unappealing. I ended up making an LI about two weeks after I nocc'd these up...the LI jars colonized, were spawned, and first flush was harvested by the time these jars finally finished up. I decided to spawn them to shoe boxes anyway since they smelled OK.
They colonized the sub in normal times and actually looked pretty good. Then I started getting these strange spots showing up on the sides. I thought they were knots at first, then they started looking strange and much "flatter" than all the knots I've normally seen.

This was a few days after they formed and they started looking more like knots and less like some kind of gross but they still look strange to me.
This one I definitely thought was some kind of contaminant at first: this is over a couple days
The top of that shoe box:
And some random pics of other shoe boxes: The gray look
They're all full of knots and pins on top so I figure I'll at least get a decent first flush. Some mutant looking stuff going on. I think those are just mutant knots on the sides. Happy saturday. It's raining big.

One week later. Not so strange after all.

1,800g wet first flush from 7 SB. Not great but not bad either.

Beautiful. Those are shoeboxes? 6qt? How much spawn? How deep do you make it?

Yeah 6qt sterilites. I followed the SFF shoe box method for these. Coir/verm slightly under field capacity, 1 qt bulk sub to 1 qt spawn with an extra .5 qt added as a top layer and heavily misted after tamping down the edges and flattening.
The sub depth is probably 1.5" or so.
I've posted this a few times recently but the perfect recipe for 7 SB like this has been 700g coir, 360-400g verm (seems like I need more for finer verm), 2.75 actual qts water. so 11 cups.

I gotta try a thinner sub. I've been doing 2q spawn to 2q coir/verm per sb. Makes about 4+ inches. But I do average 50+g dry each. Sounds like it evens out. Do you have more maintenance on a thinner sub? More misting?

I only misted once on the night before harvest. I had two SB finish first so I dried them and the other 5 were kind of in different stages, so thursday night I misted a few times just in case and left the lids cocked a little to the side for about 24 hours and all 5 blew up to where they are in those pics. So basically no maintenance at all which is cool.

Excellent. Will be doing this 1.5" sub next. Mainly I like the idea of not having to dub a sb. I could get twice as many on my shelves.
