Chaga Extract Question - Separate or not?
    #26759518 - 06/20/20 10:05 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Hello everyone- Forgive me in advance if this has been covered, but I haven't been able to find a clear answer as to whether or not to spend time separating the outer black crust from the inner yellow/brown part of chaga.

It's obviously very time consuming, and I'm sure that the majority won't go this far, but I'm willing to if that will yield the best results.  Of course this would naturally mean that I'd only do the alcohol extraction with the outer crust, and the hot-water extraction with the inner-and then combine...otherwise, no point in separating.  I hope this makes sense and I'm looking forward to getting more clarity on this.  Thank you! (p.s. I'm highly considering a soxhlet apparatus for this and feel free to chime in on personal experience w/ this method vs. the jar soak)

I'm interested in soxhlet extractions for these kind of purposes and imagine it would work well with chaga as well. But am very interested in hearing others inputs into it being worth the extra costs of equipment and energy to run over the traditional soak methods.
