Anyone use contact sterilants?

https://fungi.com/products/iodophor-contact-sterilant

Stuff like this ^

I don't know anything about this stuff.

I normally open lids but I have been considering trying some of those rubber SHIPs to make it easier to pull LC syringes.

Thing is on a colonized LC I don't really trust just wiping the SHIP with ISO.

Does this stuff actually sterilize on contact? If it does I'd consider using it for this application, could also wipe down the rim on grain master jars before G2G transfer

I've  been using IODOPHOR for years, not only for mycology purposes but brewing also. It takes a teaspoon or so to make 2 gallons (dont quote me but that's close to the recipe) and works faster than bleach to kill germies.  Also is a full spectrum sterilant,  meaning where as isopropyl and bleach must be used in other lab work, cleanroom, settings this can be used outright.  Great stuff, I believe fungi . Dot com posted it up more obviously since the lack of isopropyl.  Great buy for any lab/clean room.

Also& contact sterlizer,  doesn't really mean it kills the immediate instant it contacts surfaces. Isopropyl in all lab procedures, bleach also, should be allowed to evaporate/remain on biological matter free and cleaned with warm water/ mild soap surfaces for set amount of time. Alcohol I do believe is 2 minutes, while 10% bleach is 15 mins. This iodine based solution is far less standing time than either.
Just a bit of info.

Imo, all three are a part any myco-lab heads balanced diet. Good stuff!

Good luck!

Great info, thank you!

So provided this gets used correctly, does it actually sterilize surfaces, vs ISO, which sanitizes?

Or is it just a more powerful sanitizer? I am mostly interested in wiping down self healing injection ports. With ISO there is a possibility of introducing contams into the LC when you push the needle thru

Iodophor is a sanitizer. Not a sterilant.
If you see something being called a contact sterilant that's in the medical definition. All human pathogens are dead. Not sterile enough for petri dish work, sterile enough to put in your mouth tho yes.
And science misuses the word sterile all the time.

And most people would laugh at the AOAC test they use to determine if a sanitizer chemical is a "surface sterilant" even if they were science laypeople.
