Slight clickbait.
It has occurred to me that we are in a very particular position to deal with novel viruses/diseases. If something comes up, we've already got social protocol and some infrastructure in place to help deal with it. The reason this might pertain to an ET species is there's a pervasive theory that contact could be deadly. Keep in mind we only deal with the viruses and diseases that harm us. Any introduction of outside bacteria, microbes, diseases or viruses could be disastrous for entire species. They could track a mushroom spore that turns out to be cordyceps on steroids to us or we could have a caterpillar disease that just wipes them the fuck out. But we now have infrastructure and protocol to make things safer for all parties where infectious disease is concerned.
My question would be, with this in mind, do you think it would be worth it? Would it be worth it for greyboi neighbours or a quick scoot around the star cluster? Do you think that risk would be worth it for the advancement of the species or do you think we'd all be better off just thinking we're alone out there and hoping we make it on our own?

Aliums might be hornier than we are able to deal with, what will you do if that’s the case? What if an alien STD spreads from them to us -or- from us to them, and one or both of us get wiped out from the pathogen?
Also, I don’t think the fundamentalists of the world are ready for contact with any intelligent alien life. Me thinks it would go poorly.

It’s a real possibility. Humans tend to want to subjugate or be subjugated - how will intelligent aliens react to that? Will they fight to be on top?
For real though, it’s reasonable to assume if there are advanced alien life forms - and if they are anything like humans at all - than there would be good ones and bad ones. We’d have to be careful as hell.

Humans fuck everything they come in contact with, we def going to fuck aliens.
I think any Earth-based pathogen would wreak havoc on any organism from outside of Earth, Earthlings have loads of their DNA based around virus' defense and our immune systems are good at recognizing and dealing with most virus, even with covid-19 the death rate remains at a low %.
But my opinion is that Aliens have never visited earth and probably never plan to visit it with their physical bodies. I think what we call UFO's are just highly advanced autonomous drones from alien civilizations, they go out and collect data, and bring it back. The reason I think this is just physics, even if aliens were able to travel at light speed, it would still take hundreds or thousands of years to travel between star systems, and millions of years to travel across a single galaxy. No physical life form could handle the time, nor the gforces, nor the prolonged radiation exposure.

An interesting topic.
Im sure the Aliens are well aware that there could he microbes on their bodies that could harm them and microbes on our bodies that could harm them.
I would assume that if they have the technology to traverse the galaxy, they can sterilize microbes from our/their bodies during Initinal Contact.

I wouldn't worry much about aliens. All the viruses hidden in/under the glaciers, that we no longer have antibodies for, that'll get released as the glaciers continue to melt, should wipe us out long before aliens decide to hang out with us

Alien viruses are probably less likely to wipe out our species than a plant virus here on earth might, and plant to human virus transmission doesn't exactly happen routinely. The closer in relation you are to the original host the more effective it will be. A single cell organism from the alien planet might be more devastating than a viral compound, if it can survive in our climates, though our body might just treat it like an allergen or something and we'll all die of asphyxiation, and then the dolphins will be the only intelligent animals left to congregate with the visitors.
Then, if there is an alien civilization that's millions of years 'ahead' of our own, it's possible they are sending viral pathogens to Earth in order to shape our DNA so that they can guide our evolution in directions convenient for them. Maybe the most resource efficient way to terraform is through viral shaping where there is already organic life.
