Pressure cookers in European countries
    #26756802 - 06/19/20 09:26 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Hey,

as everyone knows it is not so easy to find good pressure cookers outside the US. Shipping the Presto, AA, Mirro ones is really expensive.

I was wondering whether you have some suggestions.

One that I found mentioned quite often here is the 'Prestige high dome'. Can someone tell how many quart/half pint jars will fit into this one (it is quite small - 6l/qt) https://www.amazon.de/Prestige-Dome-Aluminium-Pressure-Cooker/dp/B0007U94U0/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=high+dome+schnellkochtopf&qid=1592580138&sr=8-5

That was my first one, it's great and I still use it for agar stuff. Will fit 2 quarts or 4 half quarts.
2x 1 litre jars or 4x pint jars.

Amazing, thanks for your reply!

Do you have an idea whether 4 of the 1.5 pint jars will fit into it (the half pint jars are 7.5cm in diameter, while these are 8.5cm in diameter): https://www.magasin11.se/varumarken/ball-mason-jar/mason-jar-pint-and-half-wide-mouth.html

I don't think 4 of those would fit, but maybe with the right spacer plate might just squeeze them in.
When I used 4 wide mouth pint(ball mason) 3 fit onto the bottom and the 4th one goes on top lying on its side.

Why are you getting that type of jar and not a regular quart or pint jars? They probably work fine I'm just curious ha

I was just thinking that with those 1.5 pint jars I can in total fit more inside (in case 4 would have worked). But I guess then I will have to work with that.

Thanks mate! :-)

I also have a 6l pressure cooker with 22cm diameter and 17cm height.
You can fit 3 "720 ml TO 82" (or 1.5 pint in freedom units) jars in it.
I just buy some pickled stuff and use these jars. Works great, but sterilizing 12 to 15 jars takes way to fucking long.

Thanks for your reply! Can you maybe put up a link to that Monix PC? Do you know at which pressure it operates?

Yeah, it`s frustrating in Europe with PC`s  :boo:

I got a Beem Omni Perfect 8l, barely fits 3 quart jars, without trivet.
Doesn`t seal perfect, there´s always a little mark where steam comes out.
I always have to watch out, not do get the grains too dry after pcing.
Someday i`ll get one out of the States :cookiemonster:

Don't buy it!! Spend the extra money. Your hobby will be totally different with being able to cook 15 jars vs 3.

I have a mirro 23qt im a beginner and I almost outgrew it. I pack it FULL because other wise what am I wasting my time for pressure cooking and making jars/a mess. I feel like it'[s a waste as it is to do it for 15 jars an I am thinking to get a 2nd pressure cooker.

A little pressure cookers for cooking not canning.

Yes the Mirros are worth it, but they`re also about 300€ for me in Germany.
I`m just in shoeboxes, so i don`t need a huge amount of jars, but you`re right. You won`t regret investing in a good one

That is quite expensive but it's a one time purchase. I got mine back in 2010 and it's still going strong. zero maint and works as good as day one.

Maybe you can have a friend ship you one?

There`s one 22qt from a U.K. vendor for 290€+10€ for shipping.
Is it elsewhere this expensive?
I mean, for 290€ i may even look for a little AA or Presto

I think I would be willing to spend up to 300€. But I somehow have problems with spending 120 bucks for delivery from the US.

Can you link the one from the UK you were talking about earlier?

I have 2 of those. You can only fit 2x quart jars in at a time, but they’re only £40 on Amazon. I like to make up 8 rye grain jars per 650g coir brick, so 30 mins warm up, 90mins pc at 15psi, 60mins cool down, then repeat! Generally a Saturday job!

I’d love to have one of those that fits 10 quart jars, but jesus, I’m already running out of mushroom storage space from only 2x 35l monotubs per grow!

I got a Sitram 8L, french PC. Fits 4 pint jars nicely with the rack. Great quality and price wasn't too much at 100e give or take.
