I love top fruiting. I just add the same amount of coir as you and put a ziplock baggy on top with a couple smalls holes punched in it. Then I just set it in my grow area and wait for mushies

I have honestly never tried to top fruit or colonize anything in ziploc bags. Im curious about whether I should remove the lids from the jars now or wait until after colonization of the sub layer in the jars.
Ive seen tons of people succeed with it, but my jars are definitely bacterial so im just hoping to get at least a few fruits. Maybe make a spore print if im confident enough and transfer some of that to agar at some point.

I would suggest removing the lids and putting a baggy over the top. Same idea as putting a tub directly into fruiting conditions. You can check on the surface conditions but honestly you should be able to leave it alone until you have shrooms to harvest.
I cased this since it was PE and I think I misted it once before it started pinning. The others I've done since haven't needed anything besides a casing and let it do its thing!
This jar was super iffy so I think you'll get at least something from your jars.

Hmmm, I will do that with one of the jars until I get more feedback. Thanks a ton for that though. Its nice knowing someone has had success doing that. I thought it might need only GE during the colonization of the upper inch of sub. Not FAE. Ill take your word and place a zip bag over the top of one to see the differences as they progress. Unless a TC comes in and says put bags on all of em and take the lids off.

Fruiting in jars or bottles like that the grain is the substrate, so the top addition is just a casing layer. This is how the McKenna brothers taught the world to grow mushrooms in there closet during the 70s. A free pdf is available right in the link below.
Read it, I would say that's a trust worthy read.

🤣 I own that. Just never actually went back to it after my first read through because I found this site. Definitely gotta take another look at it in that case.

Don’t delete the OP after everyone gives you your answers. It screws up the search function and makes it useless for others to learn. It’s rude as hell. Bans will be issued.
