LC and Agar % sugar confusion

In "Bod's Easy AF LC TEK" (https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/25383024/fpart/all/vc/1) he says
Quote:
If you don't know what recipe to use to make LC. Then you probably haven't done agar work and are not ready for LC. LC is any agar media without the agar-agar. Sometimes in science LC is referred to as broth
From this PDYA Recipe, which is my go to, https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/4308913 that would be a 1,5% dextrose LC.
But I also hear the numbers 3 and 4% being thrown around for sugar in LCs. So which is right?

The short answer is they all work. You could up the nutrition to 20% and it would still technically work. Would just be slow. The old rule of thumb used to be 2% generally however, I’ve found higher amounts to be sometimes beneficial. Here is an old link that nicely demonstrates the flexibility we have.

I personally like more nutes in my LC, let it get really thick. Recovery time is far better.

Could you get specific? So what % Sugar, and what other nutes do you use, probably Malt Extract eh? I am stll trying to go the "simple household items" route and have been sticking to PDYA. Do you think it makes sense to add yeast and potato water to an LC to add other nun-sugar nutes?

Also, how many g would you say is 10ml honey? More out of curiosity than neccesity, I understand.
So you would say that saying too much sugar/nutes can slow down growth in agar is a myth? (or be a reason for stalling anyway) Wow, I didnt know that and heard it so many times that I took it for granted.

He literally said it would be slow.
Anything more than 1.5-2% malt extract in a LC and it gets really dark and hard to see. Other sugars can go 4%.
Follow standard agar recipes for success.

I guess im on the other end of the spectrum. I like making my lc @ 1.68g LME per liter. So thats like 0.17%
Like pasty said, itll work regardless
But i run about 30 at a time like this with a stir plate and i love the speed and clarity. Ive played with various concentrations but this is my standard recipe and it works great.

Once you get things like sterile tek and procedure down, the rest just becomes nuance. Use what works for you and delivers results. Use other people’s recommendations as a guide. If one person says 2% LC nutes, another says 4% while a third guys says 8%. So try them all and see what works for you.
