2 very etioliated top cut San Pedro

Hello!
Ok so I have 2 San Pedro cuttings I rooted last March or so. Last summer I had them in my backyard where unfortunately they must not have been getting enough light and they elongated while I was away. I live around NY so when I brought then inside for the winter I placed them in a bright room with skylights and lots of sun .
When it got warm enough this year I placed them on the front porch where they'll get sun.
The PC one seems to be starting to fatten up on the top, the Non PC hasn't really.
What could I do to aid them in correcting this besides making sure they get adequate lighting from now on?
Will they continue to grow tall and thin, or will the etioliated part fatten up? Or will the etioliated part stay skinny and then it will thicken up above it?
Should I perform surgery perhaps?

Thanks!

Here is them rooting

the skinny part will stay skinny, but if they get enough light they will continue to grow as normal above that point.

Think my LER clone might need surgery then? I don't know how stable it would be in that case

You cannot correct the skinny growth. Best bet would be to cut it, root the new cutting, and let the base regrow. Put them in more sun to get them thicker. Don't be discouraged, keep growing.

to be honest i am very new to cacti growing and i wouldnt want to give any critical advice just yet, but i do agree with turtle_hermit. they look healthy, so would grow just fine after surgery if done properly.

Thx! So what happens to the base that I cut from? It won't keep growing up in a column, it will grow pups yes?
I just cut the top with a clean knife and let it be?
Rooting the skinny part, I wonder if I shouldn't plant it vertically, but to lay it on it's side? Or is it too skinny to support that

The base will sprout one or multiple pups from the top. Clean a sharp knife and cut straight through, let the cut end heal for several weeks before rooting. You can certainly root it horizontally as a log.

Thanks! But what about the bottom that's rooted I mean? I'm just gonna slice the etioliated part to root, and leave the rest of the cactus in the pot in place. What will happen to that part? Will it just grow branches or continue as a column?

i have a side question about this. i know there is a chance it will grow two or more branches, but if it grew two, for example, would they grow at half the speed? and is this a good way to potentially increase production?

In my experience, it's a crap shoot. It could grow one branch or three, then even start to put out basal pups.

I still haven't given them the chop yet. I kinda want to see what they'll do.
The LER one is starting to ball out at the tip
