I dont care.

I dont think the government should have anything to do with marriage.

I do think one man and one woman is the ideal parental unit.

All a marriage certificate is is a way for institutions and government to see that you are family.

It's sad that's required but it is because society. Your parents and brothers and sisters are all legally documented. That's what gives you rights as a family.

Why shouldn't that work with life partners?

The religion argument for marriage was nonsense. Anyone can get a marriage ceremony in some religion.

The legal aspect is different. It is a legal recognition of family.

I have fantasies all the time about meeting some other woman that my wife likes too and we all get married and have kinky sex for the rest of our lives even into our crusty 90s. I just figured everyone fantasized about that.

WHY THE FUCK WOULD I TAKE THAT AWAY FROM SOMEONE WHO COULD DO IT???

Laws are so stupid as fuck. Also, for the record, even if it was legal (which it should be - assuming 3 consenting adult parties), would never work for me. My wife has drawn a hard clear line in the sand saying nobody else, EVER>

Also word of advice, for parties of two or more. dont get married. I love my wife and all, but am failing to see what marriage has actually done to make my life better. I am kind of just an unpaid slave now, not really in a good way either.

I used to have kinky 3 way sex before marriage. now I decided to take an oath saying ill never get to do that again. wife wants to limit hanging out with my friends, riding motorcycles, going on vacations to hike crazy mountains, skydiving, all the shit i want to do and love to do, I have essentially put myself in a position of having to explain all my life ambitions and decisions to this other person to try and get their approval - which i dont seem to get a lot of. Oh and on top of that I get to do like a million fucking house chores that shes too lazy to do.

DONT GET MARRIED. ITS NOT ALL ITS CRACKED UP TO BE. If there was one reason I would say polys shouldnt have the right to marry, its because im trying to help you.

Sounds hot.

I think I have too much abandonment issues to functionally do it myself. As I get older even threesomes are becoming less appealing.

Also because juggling a relationship with one woman is difficult enough...

I definitely wouldn't do it again, unless for some kind of legal loophole that benefitted both parties. Cause fuck the law anyway. I've never respected it and in hindsight it was dumb to write my coupling into it.

My marriage ended five years ago and I've been happily poly ever since. It's a far more natural state of being IMO. Free flowing. Not bound by tradition or expectation or paperwork mumbo jumbo.

Fwiw I took your stance as anti state, not anti poly. But the state does work it's way into your life anyway...

Sucks you need legal protection to love...

ETA: also think you're probably projecting a bit

Projecting because of my dislike of the legal system?

The thought had definitely crossed my mind!!

I'm absolutely pro-'do whatever the fuck you want to do as long as it doesn't harm anyone else.'

However I am anti-'all my concerns in life should be addressed and validated and recognized by the system because I'm special.'

I see that attitude more and more as time goes by.
