Found these near a golf course along a river. These were abundant in an overflow area. They were very dried out - it hadn't rained here for about a week when I found them. Did not blue when picked, but they felt almost completely dry. Not feeling 100% on the ID, but I have noticed ovoids tend to dry out and stay pretty meaty in a way other specimens in this region can't. Thoughts? I have more pictures and will be able to get them under a microscope soon.

More than likely Argocybe or Psathyrella sp. If not blueing

Can't get too specific on areas, against the rules here. Checking in or near debris piles in areas subject to flooding around sandy creeks/ rivers/ streams is a good starting point. Learn the box elder, one of the ovoid's best friends. For a more detailed approach check out ShroomHunt's Guide. Lot of good information there. Plus reading all the posts from this year/ past years official ovoid threads is very informative.
And, welcome to the Shroomery!

So I'm not an expert by any means. I spent three years looking and this is my first year having any success. And I attribute a big part of that success to moving deeper into their range.
But basically I went out as much as I could during the season and scoped out a bunch of different spots. I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say I put in 50 hours outside before finding anything (this is across three seasons of course). And I read every ovoid thread on here. This taught me how to identify indicator species (box elder, stinging nettle, etc.) and also what plants suggested I was in the wrong area (skunk cabbage).
My season doesn't even compare to some of the more seasoned foragers but I still ended up with a few dried ounces. It just took a lot of time and study. The feeling of actually finding them was pretty remarkable though.

Compared to your dedication I'd say I'm still a toddler lol. I really appreciate the insight and tips, and it also in a way gives me motivation. Hope I find some soon, and around as much as you did ( in ounces ).
Also does the sunlight affect their growth in any way? In my uneducated guess I'd say it keeps them from growing but does the sun mess up the ones already out after a rainy day?

Hang in there!! I started following the 2019 thread last year and read the previous years threads since, made my first finds this year. Found a spot I wanted to scope out based on the shape of the flow of water on Google Maps- first visit I found box elders, stinging nettle, and celandine everywhere. My second visit was a success

Every specimen I find at this spot has the most beautiful bluing I've seen. Literally found a single one today, and it looks like it was starting to rot. I noticed some white mycelium growing on the gills. Any chance that this can be cultured to agar? Also wondering the same about the stem butt. Would a slide of flesh from inside the stem butt catch? It felt kinda dried out, too.

I Agree That The Gills Don't Look Right, But They Are Bruising Bluish, & They Don't Look To Be A Non Active Bluish Bruising Sp, So I'd Say They Are Ovoids
