Doesnt Utah already have a law for Poly-marriages? Or does it apply only to LDS/JW members?

I am just going to join the thread by asking, why would you marry especially in a polyamorous relationship? What are the benefits? And yes, people should be able to "marry" whomever, whatever that means and whatever they get out of it. Sure, get the law involved and go through the hassle. whatever.

It’s no longer a felony in Utah but is still a “minor infraction” and doesn’t hold any real legal status.

Problem with that is that legal bullshit is involved in medical and inheritance.
Lets say you have 2 girlfriends who are married and for all intents and purposes they are your life partners. Both get into an accident. One dies. The other is on life support.
Because you are not legally married the choice to pull the plug goes to next of kin, not you.
Then that kin can dispute a will if there is one or leave you out of inheritance if there isn't.

I think it really quite intellectually lazy to fall back upon that as a reason to revamp the whole of marriage to include multiple parters.
Could you explain why you find it "intellectually lazy" to recognize that married partners are afforded additional rights and freedoms associated with things like family spaces and international travel and that not all families are defined by the narrow definition of marriage that exists

imagine being so fucking privileged and promoting the messaging of the system as to put forth that anyone who desires recognition for the ways in which their experiences deviate from yours makes them a "special snowflake"

sure, do not even comprehend why bigamy laws are in place to begin with
I think what they have in mind is the kinds of religious sects that practice polygamy along with child marriage and stuff like that. Not a good rationale though IMO.

yeah I think modern society should be capable of recognizing that we can "authorize" multiple spouses while still outlawing child spouses and pursuing legal action with regards to child abuse

Again, I find it lazy to expect the law to be altered to sort shit out for you.
Life is hard, and full of challenges, like loss and relocation and issues with money. We ALL face these.

If you want a law that gives the same rights as a married couple but call it civil unions or some shit that's fine.
But people said the same thing about gay marriage.
I'm not fond of the institution of marriage and I don't like the idea of it but I would 100% murder someone that kept me from seeing my partner in the ICU because some legal bullshit doesn't formally recognize our love.
Fuck all that.

Because the law in its current format is already made to sort shit out for you and you're all cozy and don't mind if others are excluded

and if you could find a singular woman who would be willing to marry you your relationship would not at all face the challenges poly relationships face so you are perfectly comfortable with the law staying in a way that benefits you and not being changed to expand who it benefits in the same manner it benefits you
