Is this bacteria on my agar?
    #26755140 - 06/18/20 05:49 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Transferred from this germination plate a few days ago...sorry it’s a shitshow. I squirted spore solution into a sterilized shot glass and then inoculated with a loop.

I’m wondering if the discoloration around the mycelium is bacterial or if it’s maybe the mycelium digesting the food coloring somehow. When I hold it up to the light, the agar just looks clearer in those spots, but I can’t see any aberrant growth of any kind.

I’m very new to agar, and this discoloration happens all the time, so I’ve been assuming that I’m battling bacteria, but I’m growing less sure.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I see all good contam free growth ! You are correct in the fact that the food coloring has been digested or gone away, good call. Get ready to make tranfsers and isolate your heart away!

Also, google bacteria on agar dish or contaminants on petri dishes. You can get a good look at what bacteria looks like. Yeast and other common contaminants that we face doing culture work on agar plates.

Good luck!
