I don't know if this is the correct forum for this but what do you all think is the best technique for drying out mushrooms?

I think a box fan pointing up with a screen over it might work better. How would you use a celing fan?

Dehydrator. You can guarantee they get cracker dry this way, and it is much faster. I have cooked mine at the highest setting (140F checked with thermometer), and I have not noticed one bit of potency loss. But, it would be better if you could turn yours down, the lowest mine goes is 90F.

Fan drying works too, but usually took a few days. I dry regular mushrooms with a dehydrator so I tried cubes (I never did before because I heard heat breaks down the alkaloids, bullshit). The result was perfectly dry shrooms in a matter of hours.

What worked best for me was to use my hepa air filter. I would ductape aluminum foil over the exhaust and poke holes in it with a pen. Place the shrooms on top of this layer and cover with another layer of alumnium foil and ductape that down. Finally poke holes througout the top layer of alumnium foil to allow the air to escape.

I find that by going through the filters the air coming out seems very dry to me. I can get them to be cracker dry by 48 hours.

I set them in front of a fan for 48 hours and then stick them in with the rest of my stash. I keep that in a container with damp rid.

Hi all, a stupid question. Is the fan that you are talking about a heated fan or a regular desk type fan?

Cheers

T.

Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, or Arts n Craft stores(used to dry flowers to make prints). Mostly everyone uses Damp-Rid brand. Its not expensive.

You can buy it at Mycosupply -> http://www.mycosupply.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?preadd=action&key=DRIE01

it's $16.95 for a pound of it, but you can use it over and over!

I use a food dehydrator with the heating element removed for 48 hours, then into a tupperware box with Drierite in it for a couple days. Finally when cracker dry, I stuff into mason jars, then fill the jars with co2 and store in the deep freeze with a small amount of Drierite.

Best price I've seen online for Drierite is $4.15 a pound, from www.drierite.com.

Yeah it works as long as you arent storing them...you gotta finish them off with a dessicant or they still have a bit of moisture which will funk them out
