Really no way to say for sure since it looks like any regular cubensis variety.. I’d let the bigger ones go a bit more.. when the cap opens up a little more

Yeah probably another 8-12 hours and they’ll be perfect.
Normally people say get them right when the veil tears but personally I prefer to do it a couple hours sooner when the caps still kinda rounded.

Definitely has that bag appeal!
For spore printing, i wait for the veil to break. If Im impatient, i'll pick a little early.

You can really pick it that early before the veil is even stretching?:

Yup. I mean, u can pick them whenever u feel like, but some people like to pick em when the veil is still attached.

I get them when the veil is starting to stretch but not close to breaking. Like the first picture in my last post of the one big one.
When they open they’re harder to store, the caps either take up lots of room or break into dust.
Usually it’s just a matter of a few hours before it would be open anyway.

what did you use as a liner in that second pic? It's sticking to the sub very well!

Walmart bags! I just go to the self checkout and grab a brick.
Best thing somebody ever told me to use lol. They fit shoeboxes perfectly.
I’ve also been packing the edges down extremely tight too.

I remember reading something RR wrote about mushrooms growing by cell expansion or something. Basically he was saying that very early on the mushroom has everything in it (Or maybe almost everything?) that it will have even when it’s fully grown. So if you had a clone or isolate you were fruiting and you pulled a 1 inch tall mushroom, it would have the same amount of active chemicals as a 3 inch mushroom that you let fully mature.
I don’t know exactly if that’s the case but you can definitely cut them down before they’re fully mature without worrying that you’ll loose a bunch of tripping potential

From what I’ve read pins start out with a high amount of actives but continue to produce more while they grow. So say the pin starts out with 40% of the actives itll have when it’s fully grown but it grows like 10x in size.
So pins have more psilo by weight but mature mushrooms have more altogether.

Yeah that’s how I think of it as well. I want to set up a half ass test with an isolate that produces very uniform fruits. Try eating them by numbers instead of weight and then test the same number of 3/4” pins to see how subjectively similar the trip if it’s anywhere close.

Thanks for all the info guys, everyone's so helpful here, great place.
This is my first attempt after alot of research and I'm actually proud of myself for doing it correctly the first time!
I'll try to pick off the large ones by twisting as deep into the substrate as possible? If they're attached to a cluster, dont I have to pick the whole cluster and not just the big one due to leftover stem rot from the one I picked?

I cut most of my mushrooms at the base. I don’t like twisting them because it can rough up the substrate so I slice underneath them kinda. Leaving some stem butt on the sub is ok. Then I cut off the bulky bottoms of the stems and save them for tea/extract along with any random “chaff” or mushrooms that have coir on them that I don’t feel like cleaning off, side pins etc. I can’t stand chewing mushrooms and having crunchy dirt particles ratcheting up the grossness.
