You can breathe the air, the wild horses run on the grassy plains, the red earth converted to green oasis to which every single species of polanet earth is transferred to, save from some pathogens.
So you have this green oasis of a planet, oceans with whales and dolphins, endless rainforests with frogs, vines and mushrooms, and high tech cities and villages housing humans.
As the centuries pass they evolve to lifeforms better suited to 38% of earth's gravity, so the life of Earth evolves into Martian life.
And that we do this with planet after planet, solar system after solar system, travelling interstellar space with space stations holding great biodiversity, miniature worlds with artificial gravity that make travelling as comfortable as having arrived.
Isnt THAT what we should go for?
Unite as a species to spread the life of Earth among the stars?
Type 1 civilisation and off to the stars.
Dyson Spheres collecting the entire solar energy of entire stars.
To vindicate the people who died in poverty and dolphins that choked on plasic bags.
Isn't that the future and role humanity exists for, not just to be stewards of the world but to being a gateway through which all other species can find their way to other planets, other space stations, spreading among the stars in an ever expanding ripple?
We can power this with solar energy and the Deuterium of gas giant planets.
Isn't that the future we are here for?
Koi fish in a peaceful pond, glistening in the light of another star.
A New Dawn, indeed.

Terraforming new planets is the last thing we need to be focusing on. Make all the tech, sure, but we can't even figure out how to live peacefully in equality here. Creating a network of habitable planets will just divide the species and make it harder to do something about the issues at hand, creating further issues with classism. No one thinks Joe Blow is gonna live on the moon base. No it's gonna be for scientists and rich people. We already can't do much about classism idk what we would do if things get worse, they'd be 400,000km away while they order shithead cops and robots to beat us in to submission

We will have the capability for much deeper space travel by the time we could feasibly be able to terraform mars rendering it useless.

I feel it should be our longterm goal to get our shit together NOW.
Because thats the bottom line, we need to get our shit together now or we'll be the Planet Of The Plastic Eating Microbes.

Once theres Peace on Earth, when cops stop killing the citizens and we all Unite as a Planet of Humans of varying races and ethnic backgrounds, then maybe we can colonize Mars.

That's the dream. I'm sure we'll get there one day, but I'm sad that I'll only be able to see the very beginning of things like that if I'm very lucky. We're definitely heading in that direction, I just wish it was faster. It'd be very cool to see colonies on mars, on the moon, just to look up into the sky and know that there are people living out there somewhere. Creating long term self sustaining colonies on the moon and mars would practically guarantee the long term survival of mankind.
Our planet is doomed in the longrun, the sooner we leave and spread out into the universe the better. The idea that we need to solve problems here before going there is incorrect. There's no reason why we can't do both at the same time. If we wait until everything is perfect then we'll never leave because it's likely that life will continue to have problems forever. I bet there will still be income inequality and racism 10,000 years from now. That's no reason to delay spreading our species into space.
The universe appears to be extremely hostile to life. The sooner we spread out, the better of a chance we have at long term survival.
