No cook coir with gypsum
    #26749619 - 06/16/20 05:20 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

So I know a lot of people aren't pasteurizing their coir anymore because it's said that molds won't germinate on coir.  From what I understand this is due to the fact that coir has no nutrition.  So if I added gypsum to a no cook coir recipe would that be prone to contam?  Would the gypsum add the nutrition needed for contams to germinate?

Coir verm and gypsum and any combination of those three is ok to not pasteurize

Depending on the type of gypsum you choose I would consider taking the extra step to pasteurize. Not all forms of gypsum are the same but MOST are pretty sterile

At what point will gypsum contaminate? It doesn't have any sugars. Drywall can mold but it is the paper that mold clings to and decomposes.

I just got some pelletized gypsum from shroom supply.  Not very familiar with using it and one of the very first tubs I did with it got trich that I noticed today.  Just wondering if that could have been the reason why.
