I've seen a number of items regarding Psilocybe cyanescens and other cold climate wood chip stylee shrooms and setting them up in gardens. But some things have happened here in the tropics at my place recently that suggest such a thing seem almost a sure thing for tropical climate people too.
I'm not a shroomer at all any more, tripping is redundant after you've reached mushroom enlightenment, I suppose, but mushrooms are an object of awe for me because of that and they blow me away because of what they can do, just that they exist, etc. so when they just spontaneously appear in my yard I am over the moon to put it mildly, its like getting a visit from Jesus or something.
Anyway, we just had an enormous explosion of a thousand or so Pan cyans in my garden, which is a rather large garden. And this is my conspiracy theory (and yes I'm trying to push your buttons saying conspiracy theory, get over it they use it to jerk your chain and put you off understanding anything that goes on in your lives and by "they" I don't mean the mushrooms but you know..."them") as to why it happened:
We bought about 6 one yard high sacks of buffalo shit for soil fertilizer about two weeks ago. The shit, as per usual is ultra raw, fresh outta buffalo anus, and not cheap, people are poor and mean here so they enjoy laughing at your dumb ass for buying poo and really smelly poo at that and charge you through the nose for being so stupid. Its something like, "Why don't you just use monsanto and scads of agrichemicals like normal smart people you dumb fucking hippy," is the attitude, "what in the fuck is your fucking problem...you deserve to pay 10 dollars for 500 gallons of shit!"...hahaha!
Anyway, we let our sacks of shit, or most of it sit in the bags which were open and exposed to the sun, rain for several weeks. And two days ago or so it came time to mix it into our soil to plant black beans. Lo and behold very large and healthy Pan cyans, 5-6 per bag were growing out of the top of the bags of crap. Cool, I thought, too bad I don't eat shrooms anymore, they were huge and blue staining as any that I've ever seen growing on our lot. Gorgeous, foxey mushrooms you could almost decide were your new found daughters. When I'd picked them, given names and begun to speculate about their futures as mushrooms and set them aside and then dumped the bags of shit they came from, I noticed quite a number of the poo clumps were permeated with mycelium, about which I thought, "Yep...prolly Pan cyan mycellium." I didn't think much else, used a bit of it to create some soil for my bean plantation and forgot about it.
But Today, two days later, I'm out to the pile of buffalo shit and the Pan cyans were popping out of the pile. Holy crap! Literally! Not totally surprising but wonderful to see. I went out further back to a plot I'd planted and tilled a month ago, black beans as well, composted rice hulls, buffalo shit and leaves and twig detritus covered with a layer of straw and Pan cyans were totally exploding out from under the bark and leaves and straw of my bean rows under the shade of the two foot high black bean plants. Just phenomenal. Antillerum were also growing, larger, browner non-blue/black staining but very few of them as far as I could see. We had had a tremendous amount of rain a few days previous and it was not too brutally hot either, and i think, from what I've gathered about shroom fruitions in the wild that is key.
Anyway, for people in Florida, Australia, Hawaii and other humid tropical areas it might be a thought if you want to cultivate Pan cyans to experiment with doing it the easy way and just putting bags of cow or buffalo shit in big bags and letting them grow themselves out with shrooms. And also to just plant normal crops like beans using buffalo or cow shit and in the right rainy season look for the little guys to be coming out. I'm wondering if the nitrogen factory bean plants aren't something they are also really digging on. I don't know just a thought, but they really seem to like something about being under the bean plants. Another factor was fertilizing with water and molasses about 5 hours before the rain, about 2-3 inches in 5-6 hours, it was quite a storm.
I think you need to get the doo doo straight from the source, I don't think commercial cow and buffalo shit would have that kind of action going on. We just get our stuff from ornery buffalo yard people direct. I would assume also that you would have to live in an area where such mushrooms are growing already, as obviously the buffalo pucky that we had were well inoculated from local wild stuff. Or another idea would be to buy buffalo/cow shit from farmers from areas where you are reasonably sure Pan cyans or I would assume cubes too would work. Strangely I never have ever seen any cubes growing here after a decade here but rather only tons of Pan cyans, which if i were a shroomer would rather do anyway.
