Mushroom Hunting in East Texas
    #2673469 - 05/13/04 09:21 PM (18 years, 4 months ago)

Hi, at first glance this looks like a "Does * grow in my area?" thread, and it kinda is. Texas is a very large state, and cubensis only grows in certain areas due to drastically different weather conditions. I already know it is very very rare to find cubensis where I live (though possible), but I am curious as to whether it will grow in a town I will be visiting soon if cubensis grows there.

The town is Garland, Texas. It is slightly North-East of Dallas. Kaufman (sp?) or other towns in the Dallas area are all fine, just as long as they are within short (1 hour, one-way) driving distance. Anyone have any experience in this area? I noticed driving back on I-20, there is an area that I would refer to as a "mountain" and it seems like right after you pass it, everything is completely dry again, but up to that point, things are much more wet. Humidity should be VERY high this weekend in Garland, and I believe it is raining as we speak.

Any opinions? Thanks in advance.

Garland is very "iffy" and i doubt if any cubies were found in Ft Worth due to the climate ect...East Tx piney woods is full of all kinds of nice edibles this time a year...You might be abel to find actives in the Garland area if it has recieved some of the good rains we have had recently because it has cows everywhere...
Your best bet for actives is allways on our gulf coast..

i know the "mountain" you speak of on I20. on the east of the mountain, im sure youd have luck with the hunting. there are plenty of fields to go around in the DFW area. go start walking through fields. eventually youll find something to your liking

but stay away from the west side of the mountain or further on I20. i dont know about north DFW or south DFW, but before the mountain is good area.
