I work in the field of "at risk youth" and "mental health", basically all I am doing is trying to help them get through childhood traumas... it is the most heart wrenching thing ever.
When I explain I work with kids that are 9-12 and have extreme mood disorders and conduct disorders, the first question I get is "Why are they like that so young?"
Abuse, poverty, neglect, trauma.
Then comes "Why would anyone put a child through that?"
Because, they haven't resolved their own childhood traumas. Thus that is why we have "generational trauma". I am so triggered by this topic because it is so hard to get people to be able to see outside of the skim surface of themselves and how they perceive reality.
One of my old consumers, I'll call him A, was 9 when he started our intensive day program. He was CAUGHT killing cats twice in the alley way, he had a thug mentality, and was not afraid to try and stab anyone. NINE YEARS OLD.
His mother was illegally bringing people in from the Dominican Republic, his cousins were all in gangs, drugs were flying in and out of the house like no ones business... all in front of him. And then, he was forgotten and put to the side.
The trauma going on in our streets that is hidden from us is disgusting, the lack of services for these situations is astounding, there is NO FUNDING or HOUSING facilities for youth or women or men in situations that actually work a program and if there is, it is private and has a long wait list.
AHHHHHHAFsakflasjfdlas;fjsaklfa
So triggered by this topic.

I was severely traumatized during my childhood.
heres an ACE TEST
Got your ace score
I never had my trauma of childhood quantified, but I have an ACE score of 7 out of 10.
They dont even scale things over 4, the most severe situation is "4 or over"
In addition to that I was bullied severely and institutionalized in my teenage years because my personality just came apart, where I was abused further, and I experienced continued abuse into adulthood, all of which are not counted in the test.
I'm screwed so hard the screws have gone dull, so can I ever relate to that.
It resonates with my currend health state, a lot of what they ascribe as more likely for 4+ scorers is already in my life.
Its bizarre even your adult cancer risk goes up significantly because of it.
I've made something out of my life that I enjoy.
Many of you would instantaneously kill yourself with a hammer if you had to live my life, though.

I'm involved in the mental health field in a clinical setting as a client... I'm in the process of being certified as a peer advocate... My goal is to work in crisis intervention... I buy all of what she had to say... I see what she had to say in many others... We can overcome childhood trauma but it takes a lot of work on the part of the individual as well as the clinicians... I'm sorry that you had a horrible childhood... I hope you were able to overcome the things you were forced to live through...
My ACE score was four...
