I have gained forty fucking pounds
    #26748210 - 06/16/20 04:19 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

I hurt my ankle up in December and it's still jacked up, so I can't run.  Well, I can but my foot feels like some one is driving a 16 penny nail through the ankle bone.  I haven't been to the gym since February.  And for the last 3 months, I have sat on my ass and eaten all of 'whatever'  Now it's all showing.  I have gained 40 pounds and have a beer gut.

I have to get off my ass, eat less and find a way to burn some calories that doesn't hurt.

Most people don’t like to hear this. You need to develop more discipline in your life. Stop disrespecting yourself and, instead, honor your body. You’re probably a nice person to other people. If so, why wouldn’t you treat yourself with the same thoughtfulness and compassion that you treat others with?’

This happens to people and they stop exercising. Maybe ride a bike if the ankle is weak, swimming or going to the gym and working around the ankle. You don't need to run to get healthy again.

Change your diet and you can eat as much as you like for the most part. STOP EATING SHIT FOODS!!!!  You're going to end up a diabetic with serious health issues in short order. Stop drinking beer, stop consuming sugar, stop eating garbage.

Once people get too big it's almost impossible to reverse it, don't end up with a body that's beyond fixing.

Fucking covid-19, politics over masks and science, the world is on fire, people are dying in the streets daily, massive unemployment layoffs, soon-to-come catastrophic economic Fallout and no leadership from this selfish POS president.

The most sensitivity you can offer this person who has an injury and also dealing with all this shit is that he's got to get his priorities straight and he's going to get diabetes. Nice compassion, I'm sure you're Arnold fucking Schwarzenegger and just as mentally stable as our stable genius.

OP I'm not here to tell you what to do you'll do it when you're ready, right now is a time of hi stress. Be good to yourself and be good to others particularly now and ignore stupid ppl.  Wishing you the best.

He needs to lose weight and get healthy, he doesn't need to hear your political rants and how to be nice to other people.

I was 140 kilos. This anoynmous post forum has a post FROM ME dated 2 years ago. It sounds exactly like your post.

LISTEN TO ME.

Each and every step you take.... future you will be LAUGHING if you do good on each step. Stop fucking up. Make correct decisions. And fucking get there.

You KNOW that this ankle problem is not 100 percent the reason you arent exercising. Get your heart rate up. Find a way. And do it.

Eat correctly. Find a plan that works for you. For me... it was one meal a day. One big glorious meal. And I slowly turned that one meal into more and more Keto of a meal.

I am now 90 kilo. I got 15 left. I'm feeling GREAT. Women are all over me. Life is so much easier... physically and emotionally.

Just DO it bro. I believe in you.

MUCH love. GOOD vibes. <3333

Unless you are in a sport that requires running, joining the military or another para-military force, excess running is bad for you. Sprinting is good and no more than 3-5 miles of distance. More than that is just tearing up your joints.

Get into a leg press machine and use that puppy with one leg. I forget the technical term, but the injured leg will get some benefit from the non-injured leg working. Pullups, rowing, dips, you can be one leg down and still burn it off. There is always a way through if you want it, a CKD or straight keto diet will keep the pounds away. Kroc rows and bench rows will also burn some calories, a pullup bar is an excellent tool that doesn't require use of your legs.

Hi friend.

Sorry to hear about the injury. When I was in a car accident I had a broken hip and couldn't walk for a month, my muscles all but disappeared in my legs.

When I was in PT they showed me a lot of amazing seated stretches and exercises I could do.

Have you looked into PT videos on youtube yet? I know you shouldn't do things without "professional guidance" but I'm sure you're able to tell whats too much and what's not. Maybe PT videos would be a beneficial start?

Could help the ankle too.

Really if you're gaining 40 pounds in a such a short amount of time you should start with diet. Don't have to get super fancy, but cut the carbs down and limit your caloric intake strictly by tracking what you eat. If you have sugary drinks around the house, carb based snacks like oreos or crackers that you're just eating for no reason, every meal you have is just carbohydrates like pasta and rice then cut back completely on all that and stop buying those types of foods for a while. Protein heavy meals early in the morning help with appetite regulation throughout the rest of the day. Sometimes when you're craving certain foods like ice cream or fruit, you're actually just thirsty for water.

Really depends. The more muscle you build geared towards running, the more that muscle will absorb impact, as well as strengthen joints in place, preventing injury - and even preventing injury that might occur were you not running at all. Just going for a marathon without proper training will absolutely destroy your joints and ligaments, even skeletal fractures will be more severe if you aren't building bone density and whatnot. But there are no hard rules saying more than 5, 10 or 30 miles is strictly bad for you, necessarily. It depends on how well adapted your body is to running (and how well you've adapted your body personally as well).

I had an ACL tear at one point and didn't exercise much for years afterwards, because my knee was unstable and would dislocate, often be painful walking etc. It actually never truly stabilized until I started running several years after the injury and surgery. Running was something I only did after reading into how NFL players would tear an ACL and be back at it only 6 months later, which was odd to me given how mine was just permanently fucked it seemed. Before that point I didn't really grasp how important muscle was in stabilizing everything and keeping things locked in. Literally haven't had issues with my knee since and even deadlift, squat, run long distance etc without issue (I would say those exercises actually assist with stability).

Not to say running should be OPs goal or anything though with an ankle injury that isn't healed yet. Plenty of exercises you can do without too much leg work for sure.
