I’d seriously consider the Fooman WBS prep, especially if you’re getting stinky grains from soaking. That’s just tons more bacteria you have to kill off during the PC. With the fooman prep I get a pot of water boiling and then maybe 30-45 minutes later I’m loading my grain into jars for the PC.

And to Entheo, that’s the whole beauty of agar : ) you can see what’s germinating from your print/syringe and then take only the good stuff to another plate and eventually grow that out.

I just stated how to avoid the bacteria  :um:

ok, I was just being gracious... I meant NO stink, not minimal.

Goddamn i love that. That will feel so clean to succeed at. Im starting the agar plates tomorrow and noccing up the seeds I had soaking already tonight.

Another question though if you guys dont mind, can I used a straight razor or box cutter instead of scalpel or inoc loop to do the transfers from agar plate to agar plate, or agar to wbs. I know this may be a dumb question because it seems like you would be able to use whatever you can get your hands on thats sharp enough to not rip the agar badly while cutting, so long as its flamed.

It might be hard. I like a little hobby scalpel because the tip is small and easy to maneuver

Just go to walmart and get an Xacto knife...they are like $4 and work awesome...that's what I and many others use.

It would work but it would be a lot more material over the plate than I’d like.

These jars are a bit sweaty, maybe even bacterial: dial moisture content back before sterilization and I bet you quit seeing them stall... if the grain is hydrated completely on the inside, you want the outside nearly dry...

I did just that with the latest batch I pc'd. They look tons better than most ive done. I dried the seeds on a towel before pressure cooking them. They were dry to the touch without any water appearing in the jar before pressure cooking. Of course, after I pc'd them they had a bit of moisture on the inside but thats to be expected right out of the pc.

Could anyone tell me if I wrap the entire agar container in foil or just the lid with a paper towel underneath to prevent the water from building up too badly?

Just the lid with foil, no paper towel... its liquid and will be poured while still hot... 117°F is said to be the best temperature to pour at: it's still a liquid, but fairly cool, which limits condensation in the dishes... if they're no pours, let them cool in the PC overnight and condensation will be minimal to nonexistent

Hope this helps

I think theres been a misunderstanding. I am following this tek https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23188000 . This tek states to let them cool before placing inside the PC and this prevents the condensation buildup from like you said, them being poured while still hot. I understand what you mean though. I just made a post about the process so far because I didnt know if it would be right to post it here. Hoping im not going against the forum rules somehow

Next time I do this, I will do as you said and pour at that temp instead of letting them sit to cool for a bit.

They will still require time to cool and set up... are you in a SAB or laminar flow?
