Bags tearing easily after sterilizing

Anybody ever had issues with bags tearing after being sterilized? Im using large 2.2mil growbags with .2 micron filters. Im not sealing them prior, they are being sealed after sterilizing. They are being sterilized in an All American 75x sterilizer
After sterilizing I let them completely cool and then g2g from a colonized quart jar. Out of 6 bags I recently did 2 of them got tiny tears in them once they were massaged after the g2g. Is there anyway to help prevent this? Im looking at going to 3mil thick bags to see if they will help any

I only use unicorn brand bags & have zero issues with tears. I also use a impulse sealer & used to get tears at the seal when messaging. I solved that by backing off my heat setting a little & not breaking up near the seal. I work clumps to bottom of bags & break up their to not put undue stress on seal. My grain bags are the 3T by Unicorn.

I had the same problem. All my bags tore in the PC during the PC cycle.

I believe the bags I am using are unicorn brand. They come from a vendor on the shroomery supported vendors list. I'm going to try the 10T bags which are 3 mil thick compared to the 3T which are 2.2mil.

Did you preseal the bags? Were they weighted down to keep them from expanding inside the PC? My problem arises after the bags have been sterilized. They come out of the sterilizer vaccuum sealed once pressure has dropped. The bags come out intact, but once they have been handled a little a small tear less than half an inch long seems to open up from time to time

I dont pre seal & I run a tyvek sheet. I carefully fold utlizing the gussets & expelling all unnecessary air. I run 4 at a time in my presto 23 qt with a dinner plate on top. I had a few stick awhile back so now i line my pc with renolds non stick foil. I recently got some of the thicker ones but run most of my bags in my barrel steamer so the thicker bags were an un needed xtra expence in my application. Might solve your problems tho.

Just looked at unicorn's website. Looks like that 10T bag is only 5"×4".. quite a bit smaller then the 3T. The XLS-T is 3 mill & quite large at 5"×10" probably need to be running a steamer or All American 41.5 or 75x to utilize them to their potential.

Do you guys pre-seal 0.2 micron bags? I don't have source for those tyvek sleeves.

Ill need to get a larger sealer to run the XLS-T, mine can just barely squeeze in the 8" wide bags. The 10T may work for me, Im only running 4 or 5qts of grain per bag. I may order just a few to try and see if I need to move to something bigger

I had the same issue with my presto when running bags. I found throwing the bags in a pillow case and separating them from the walls of the PC using jar rings stopped them from melting and sticking to the sides.

I would not seal the .2 bags. If you are set on presealing bags you can get away with presealing .5 micron bags. You would need to make sure all air is expelled from the bags prior to sealing, that they are weighted down in the PC to keep the bags from expanding during cool down, and you would want to slowly and gradually lower the pressure on the cool down. Ive found the .5 will work for grain spawn, the .2 are of course preferred
