Possible contamination?

Hi, first-time grower here. I bought a kit online "Golden Teacher" and this is around 5 days into having it.
Instructions were clear and for me to simply open the box and put it into plastic bag and paper clip it. Then when pinheads appear (they haven't yet) to then spray the inside of the bag with water.
I bought a hydrometer thermometer as well, and have been using that to monitor things.
I can't think how things would be contaminated (other than bad luck) as I haven't done much. I washed my hands when I put it in the bag, but I didn't wear a face mask or anything like that.
Link to images (incase upload doesn't work): https://imgur.com/a/uvCUEKk
Is this normal or have I messed it up already? It doesn't smell bad but does have a smell, it's maybe a sweeter version of the smell it had when it first arrived.
Thanks

Ah fuckballs.
What could I have done wrong do you reckon? I can't think how I would have messed it up.
Gonna reorder and give it another whirl.
Kit was sitting on top of cupboard, out of direct sunlight but next to a closed window.

Ditch the kits and grow your own!

Are you saying it was a precolonized kit? You're just supposed to fruit it? If so, the problem is that it was already contaminated before you got it

I bought the kit from Supa-gro. I am based in the UK.
All I have done is follow the simple instructions from their site and this has happened. Part of me is still in denial about it because of how little I could have done differently.
But it is what it is. I think I'll give it another shot from the same website, only because a friend had a successful grow.
Maybe I was just unlucky? Is there any way of knowing what type of contamination it is so I can work out what might have happened?

So you inoculated it with a spore syringe?

Nope, I didn't do that. I just followed these instructions:

So didn't do anything complex at all...

If that's all you did then it was doomed to fail from the start. More than likely it was contaminated when you got it. Looks like trich

It was already contaminated before you got it. Don't buy another one. Grow your own. If you want the cheapest, easiest, most basic way to grow mushrooms instead of mold and bacteria, here you go:

Why ask for advice if you’re just going to do what you want to do anyway? There’s a reason grow kits are looked down upon.

Thanks for the links. I'll look into it for sure...I would love to do it all from scratch.
But I'll struggle time-wise at the moment to do the full process. It is something I'd like to do in the future. For now, gonna try a stab in the dark with one of these kits. Hopefully, it'll spark something and next time I'll go whole hog.
One of the websites from the sponsors link is where I bought my kit. I am based in the UK. So at least its a good source for a kit?
Thanks again

Not ignoring the advice. Taking it on board, would love to grow from scratch in the future.
Still hoping to learn even if it's from a grow kit. Already learning about trich and contamination, the hard way.

Aye, best of luck!
I bought a grey oyster grow kit in the beginning to grow alongside my own grow, just because I wanted to see some mushrooms grow for motivation 😂. Very low risk of failure though since it was already fully colonized.

Bury it in the ground or throw it in the trash

Yeah just toss that wherever you like. Trash or compost but it’s too far colonized with mold to expect any surprise backyard mushrooms
Oh and if you haven’t yet I would definitely email the company with pictures. There’s no way you could get it that contaminated yourself even if you rubbed mold spores all over the top layer.

Quick update. The guys at Supagro never got back to me ((shrugs))
But my new order arrived today and it smells COMPLETELY different from what the last kit did. The first kit, smelled really weird when I first opened it, whereas this kit I'd say has no overly distinct odour.
So now almost certain that the last kit arrived already contaminated.
Let's see how this batch goes, and then if I can pull this off, I'll do it completely from scratch later in the year.
