Just harvested my first mono tub - was a mess but learned along the way

Hi all ,
So just the other day I made my first mono tub , just testing the waters. I used a grow kit from a trusted supplier. I’m also no expert when it comes to ideal ratios of spawn to substrate But in this case it was a bit over 2 quarts grain spawn to a 650g brick of coir. There’s abit or verm in there but nothing much to take into consideration.
If I’m correct in my Thinking , I will leave to do its thing then introduce some FAE. I’d be lying if I said I don’t care if it works but as I said , testing the waters.
Picture taken 1 day after made

That’s a lower spawn ratio but i use it sometimes too.
Looks healthy if it’s recovered that much in a day.
You can give it air now if you want, most people are doing fruiting conditions from day 1 now.

Reassuring, was just reading up and nearly had a heart attack. I saw how coir isn’t very nutritious and you add supplements for that, my train of though went “oh shit, doesn’t the mycelium like need nutrition to spread” went to bods easy af substrate tek and was put to ease.
With the FAE Yh I might do that then, I find it so interesting from my ready how the teks have evolved over the years .

All the nutrients are in the grain spawn, don’t add anything. The coir is just to hold water.
The non nutritious thing is actually why it’s so good to use cuz mold spores land in it but don’t have enough food to grow.

Thanks ,
Seeing how you can keep the condition the same throughout the process I’ll let it get abit more fresh air to dry a little, bit not too much.

I let it get a bit more FAE to get rid of the wetness but I think maybe too much , I didn’t see any water droplets and it looked different, I gave it a light mist , still looking fine ?

Looks good still, don’t let it get totally dry though. Just enough light misting to keep the little beads going so they can evaporate.

Update: tub seems to be good, every time I check it’s looks evenly moist and I give it a light mist to maintain, but again noob noob so wanted to make sure it’s still okay. From roughly 2qt of spawn and a coir brick what rate of colonising would you call this. Slow , fast etc.
Also, coir has no nutritional value right so when calculating yield id only take into account the amount of spawn I used right ? 2qt

Im noobish side as well bro (more academic knowledge than hands on). I have to say your tub looks great! The myc looks like its colonizing at a decent rate from others i have seen. I cant see any signs of bruising or contam and the network is looking healthy. Good work. Keep us posted (i am also helping a friend with a "grow kit")

Update: the tub got infected with some green mold sadly. To slow it down I’ve put salt on the effected area, I’m continuing to grow it out as it’s my only tub going

You are doing great! Be sure to take spore prints and maybe even some clones if you're set up for agar.
Lovely looking fruits.

Nice job. You can see in earlier pictures that your spawn was bacterial. When such is the case, it is weakened, allowing other contams to hop in. How are you prepping your grain?

I’d like to take a spore print but I feel as if there is no point, there is probably green spores everywhere in there contaminating everything so it’s a lost cause. Agar should work I think Seeing how the tissue sample shouldn’t be effected.

I actually didn’t. I’ve been testing the waters and decided to buy a grow kit which then I repurposed it’s grain to use as spawn. I guess I was setting myself up for failure.

That's ok!
Agar works wonders for cleaning up cultures.
