san pedro sun damage?

i have a san pedro cutting that i potted 2 days ago and it was put outside in full sun yesterday morning by my wife, thinking she was helping. it was only out there for a few hours, maybe 3-4 hours, but i think it has taken damage. i also had a bolivian torch out there (potted at the same time, but 30cm, rather than 10cm san pedro) with it but that was unharmed.
another potential problem is that there was some marking on it when it arrived. it looked like water marks so i did not think anything of it, but maybe it could be the cause?
below is the san pedro with the yellow patches on it that were not there yesterday, even when i first pulled them out of the sun. i did not notice them until this morning. the marks that were there when it arrived are still visible in some places where there is no yellowing. i have circled some in red to highlight.

any ideas?
thanks for the help <3

after hours of digging around i am feeling confident this is sun damage. luckily it seems i caught it early enough for it to repair.

What you have circled in red looks more like the residue after a drop of water evaporated.
Cactus are slower to show damage than regular plants. If you put a cacti out in too strong of light, it wouldn't show for a few days.

Its probably caused by stress. Something like too much sun, or maybe a nutrient deficiency. Sometimes viral infections can cause something similar, but I don't think that's what yours is.
I have that on a few of mine and it doesn't seem to affect growth or anything.

thanks. i guess i will have to wait and see what happens. i have placed it indoors about 2-3 feet away from a south facing window, where no direct sunlight hits it for now. i will ease it into the window in the next few days and see how it does for maybe a week or something in half light.
thanks for the help

this problem seems to be coming to an end. i will try to get some pictures up soon, but the sunken parts are starting to pop out again and everything looks like it will be okay, although the patches do not seem to be returning any colour.
i never did figure out what the problem was, but it looks like it will be okay

The circled spots are mineral deposits from evaporated water, the yellow spots are bug bites from a sucking bug of some kind. Probably leaf foot bugs or stink bugs.

ah thanks! when it was put outside it was down on the floor. i think when they get outside i will put them on a table then, at least! it has not got any worse so they must be in the area where it was placed before. will the colour return to those spots? im not too worried about the colour as long as the cactus is okay, which it does appear to be.
thanks for the info <3

I think the yellow speckling is just a bit of heat stress or the start of a mild sunburn, and will most likely recover without much blemish if the conditions were changed.

thanks! <3 i guess i have been doing the right thing then. i pulled it inside straight away and put it near the window. since then i have been easing it closer to the window with the plan of getting it outside when its not either raining or way too sunny! (no in between in UK right now it seems -_-).
thanks for the help <3
