Hi everyone,
Brand new member and keen to get more involved. I recently went mushie harvesting in NSW, Australia. I found them on the floor of a pine forest. I was wondering if you could help me identify these mushrooms? I think they look like Psilocybe subaeruginosa but I genuinely have no idea and was hoping someone could help me out before I eat them!! They don't appear to bruise blue, I've tried squishing them a few times to test it with little luck, but I might not be doing it right?
Let me know if further info is needed to figure this out, genuinely appreciate any and all help.
Thanks everyone.

I'm a newb myself but;
imagine a clock - on your second plate between 3 and 5 oclock all look like possibly poisonus ones to me. the one in the middle also (the one with a stem)
only way to be safe mate is to bash the stems around a bit, wait for blue, and also do a spore print. sometimes it takes a day for them to go blue. the stems for subs should be silvery and a bit "grainy"
you also need to photo better ( in focus) from underneath the shrooms, showing the gills and the stalk as they are a key identifier of the highly poisonus similar appearing Galerina. Gallina looks very like a sub but has a orange ruffle, or orange on stem.
here is a link that shows the mushrooms you shouldn't be picking. https://endofthegame.net/2012/05/09/psychedelic-mushrooms-and-you/3
I see Leratiomyces ceres a lot - these never make their way into my bag cuz its easy to tell they are too orange. I see Cortinarius - poisonous a lot - i sometimes pick these by mistake, spore print saves you cuz the spore print will be rusty / brownish whereas subs have a dark brown to purple print I see Galerina marginata a lot - i sometimes pick these by mistake, spore print saves you cuz the spore print will be rusty / brownish whereas subs have a dark brown to purple print

No subs here as far as I can see.
* Chuck any that don't have a white stem * Chuck any that have a white stem but have any red colouring on them (usually subs have white with silver/blue colouring) * Chuck any with white gills
Lastly, chuck any that don't bruise blue.
Through that process of elimination, I don't think you'd have any potentials left?

Hi Wiggcj,
Thanks for the info, you're a legend!!
I'm going to bash the stems and see if they go blue... if they don't go blue, I'll chuck them all out... hahahahahaha
I'll save that link as well and give this all another go in the near future.
Really appreciate the quick reply too. Thanks again!

No worries. Just keep asking for IDs until you figure it out. With some work and plenty of failures, eventually when you first see subs in the wild, you’ll get a big aha moment.
