ID request Aus SA thought it was Galerina sp. but not sure
    #26744907 - 06/14/20 08:36 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Found some imposters amongst some subs in a SA pine forest yesterday. I initally thought they were a galerina sp due to the slight annulus but the gill attachement looks different to me. I picked them so I could spore print them and it turned out brown. Wondering if anyone knew what these little guys were?

Pic #1 - The 3 With Thicker Creamy Colored Stems That Show Bluish Bruising Are Psilocybe Subaeruginosa, The 3 That Have Thinner, Darker Stems That Show No Bruising Look To Be Galerina Sp.

Yeah got no porblem idenitying which are subs and which arent don't worry! I'm just more intersted in what galerina sp the non subs are if it's a galerina at all. It just looked a little different on the gill attachemnt to me compared to other galerina sp ive seen like patagonica/marginata. G patagonica's hymenium is adnexed whilst the mushrooms photographed here appear to have some what decurrent hymenium.

I'd call those Galerina marginata. The gill attachment is very typical for that species.
Your pictures show a good example why care must be taken when hunting mushrooms.

Thanks for posting this.

hello friends, I am encountering similar problems distinguishing subs from galerina. in the field I was confident I had only been picking subs but I took spore prints and am really worried about rusty spore prints compared to purple.
any help would be great  soz for the shit photography

Most Of Those Look To Be Psilocybe Subaeruginosa, Look Over Them & Make Sure They All Bruise Bluish Where Injured/Damaged & Toss The Ones That Don't

This, but also keep in mind that it has been known to be a phenomena where random subs have a brown spore print rather than purple, some sorta mutation. Blue brusing and lack of an annulus are your key identifiers in this case.
