Treasure Coast Grow Pt. 2

Here’s my tub so far at 6 days colonization. I used about 3.5 qts of spawn and mixed with 50/50 coco and verm. I plan on letting it sit about 8 more days and then putting it into fruiting conditions.

Very nice, it'll probably start pinning before 8 days is up, if that happens I'd go ahead and start the FAE.

Some growers apply fruiting conditions at spawning

13 days later I have put my tub into fruiting conditions. The surface doesn’t seem too much different than when I posted a week ago, however, I’m sure it was given a good amount of time to consolidate all throughout the tub.

Not even 2 days ago, I put my tub into fruiting conditions. Things are moving along nicely, there are hyphal knots forming and some pins coming up all throughout the surface.

Do you want that much condensation built up?

There is a perfect amount of water that you can achieve. I believe if you have the perfect amount of water you will get condensation like I have here. You can tell that the moisture is in a droplet form and my substrate isn’t drowning or looking like there is signs of pooling. My substrate was at field capacity when I put it into the consolidation stage. In my opinion having the right amount of moisture and having these droplets is beneficial, because the main pinning trigger is caused by evaporation.

Yeah the drops also look much smaller in person.
Took me a while to realize that when I started out. Same thing with pictures of harvests, they always look much bigger in pictures to me.

I agree, the amount of condensation also, from experience, gives me a very good feeling in the sense of "It looks promising", "this is gonna be a good grow" etc.

For sure, I feel like I am beginning to grow a lot more consistent in my work. Consistency is the biggest key to having not only a successful grow but a grow in which you optimize your potential harvest or end result in whatever your trying to accomplish. Advice to anyone who is new to growing mushies; practice excessive sterilization to insure none of your jars get contaminated, write down your ratios and focus on being as precise as possible with your measurements, be patient, and do it as much as you can to gain your own first hand experience.

It’s been 3 and a 1/2 days since I put my tub into fruiting conditions. As you can see, there are several hyphal knots and some pins forming! I believe I found my sweet spot when it comes to timing. This grow I let my jars sit 5-7 days after they were fully colonized (when there were hyphal knots on the outside of the cakes in the jar). I then mixed my spawn and substrate (50/50 coir/verm) I then let that colonize for 12 days. The treasure coast strain seems to grow a lot quicker in all stages compared to other strains, I would adjust the timing slightly based on your current strain’s progression. I always try and go into each grow with an intention, for example, on this grow I wanted to concentrate on trying to achieve a more dense pinset. Having an intention can help you take your grow more seriously and have better results. Based on the hyphal knots, it is looking good so far. Should have an update in about 3 days.

You should try just spawning straight into fruiting conditions if you want some real good timing. It will happen Boom exactly when it’s ready. I'm diggin it myself with 7th day knotting pretty consistently. And a 50/50 mix can obviously work but that’s pretty heavy on vermiculite. Daimon5050 put out the bucket tek and the 50/50 ratio has been mistakenly tied to it ever since. 80/20 or 70/30 somewhere in there is the gold standard for people that use verm in the mix.
Looking good man.

Well I’m not for sure if this is 50/50... but my ratio sits at 1 brick coir: 2 quarts verm: 4+ quarts of water. You would recommend using more coir than verm correct? I don’t disagree with this, I have seen some use only coir. I haven’t experimented with yet due to space, however, I do want to try it in the future to better dial in my ratios. I believe I have the perfect hole placement as well for the size of this tub. If want one wants to see more about that let me know.

Ahh yeah that’s like an 70/30 ratio you’re using.
