No peoples were saints. If you go far enough back in history with any population you find alot of dark times.

But that's why recent history matters. We can't change what people did hundreds of years ago. But we can mitigate some of the effects of what people did 100 years ago. Or 70 years ago. Or 50 years ago.

And more accurately in the age of sentiment we can effect what people didn't do that they should have yesterday. Or 10 years ago. Or 20 years ago.

It all works together but the farther back you look the less we can do about it.

Reparations for slavery should have been paid in the early 1900s at the latest. Now we can only work with what we have after the civil rights movement.

like i was just thinking bout it. To this day where are military learned to be so sadistically brutal and terrorize our enemies was from the indian wars. French and Indian wars are where we learned how to use guerilla tactics and hit and run shit with no honour considered appallingly ungentlemenly by the more aristocratic British officers. But it was infact a key shift in military tactics that was used in several key battles and indeed may have been one of the critical edges that allowed us to win our independence.

Everyone else of every other ancestry is entitled to 0 sq ft of land by birthright though unless they are lucky enough to be born into some degree of wealth. Reserves today are not prisons, native people have the option of leaving and taking the same shit deal regular citizens get (wrt land use at least, and in Canada taxation). Below a certain income threshold that pretty much means being a tenant permanently. Or homeless/a nomad I guess. Now are racism and other factors (e.g. intergenerational repercussions of past institutional abuse here in Canada) huge barriers on top of that garden variety shit deal, of course. But the reserves themselves are the kind of deal other poor ass people only wish they got. A place to live with no landlord over your shoulder.

That's a good point.

But homeless people in a city have access to electricity and modern plumbing and internet.

It's broken promises that's the issue.

The indian relocation act of 1956 (I think) promises to give financial aid to native americans who wanted to move out to cities but it often broke the promises and simply added native americans to the homeless population.

If you ask me we should have done that sort of thing with detroit. Moved and supported now jobless people in a crippled economy. But no one ever promised detroit would be self sustaining.

You can buy an acre of land for 3k in the desert.  Prolly cheaper than that if you looked.  No water no trees nothing.  Well some have been planted with shit trees that suck up water and are completely useless.  No landlord no neighbors.  That’s 100$ a month for less than 3 years owner financed.  I can hook you up.  No drugs really either except some good meth.  Why not go hang out in the sun no job nothing.  Be a nomad.
I think people would rather be comfortable, and enjoy the government dole.  Complain about getting ticketed for driving wasted and putting everyone’s life at risk.  Act like a complete asshole to the people trying to protect others safety.  Then get shot for assaulting the person rationally trying to determine the situation at hand.  Yea we deserve more.  Someone needs to step up and Buy my food.  I’m done working overtime and paying for these assholes.

Yeah I would take that deal if I was a citizen there and there weren't other complicating factors. Maybe grow a lot of Trichocereus and sell them on the internet. Here you might find a chunk for that price if you went far enough north. But more commonly something that cheap per acre would be a large parcel.

You think so?

Inspired by that $10 challenge I announced to my Spirit Guide that I wanted to show my solidarity with what goes on there.

My Spirit Guide proposed I'd mask up, glove up and head to the store to ATM 10 Euros and literally hand them over to the first black person I had an interaction with, and that would make me "in on it" as far as he is concerned.

As said, so done.

Went to the store and AMT'd a tenner ($11,30 value).

"palm it." my Spirit Guide said, so I folded it and kept it in my palm, under my thumb.

I exit the store and at this point this black kid, in passing, bumped into me.

"Hey! That ain't 1.50m!" (the Dutch social distancing distance) I said cheerfully, "But here's a tenner for your trouble!" and I handed him the ten euro bill.

He practically shat himself with shock and gratitude :yesnod:

"And now YOU have an awesome evening, no?" :rainbowcloud: I said, with a quizmaster like pitch and headed home.

Self destruction, Qman?

That whole synchronicity and the look on his face when his mind blew made it totally worth the investment.

Astonished!
Euphoric!
Grateful!

VALIDATED BY A COMPLETE STRANGER, WHO WAS WHITE.

Does the $10 challenge make you feel awkward Qman?

I'm in.

You cheated

You should have said: "here is a tenner because you are black and I am white"

I doubt the response would have been the same

The problem I have with these sorts of charitable donations is it's peasants helping peasants. Here in the US people are constantly doing a GoFundMe program for their medical bills or some other personal tragedy. Instead of begging other poor people for money, why don't they focus on a Medicare For All program from their government?

Poor people funding other poor people isn't a long term solution.  We need to see rich people paying their fair share, that should be the focus.

Been over it since it happened. That may sound harsh/insensitive, but on average in the US somewhere around 45 people, give or take, are murdered everyday.  Don't get me wrong I do feel for his family and friends -- but no more so than any of the other 16,000-ish people who die every single year. He was murdered and his murderer deserves to be harshly punished and that's basically the end of my thoughts on it.

People kill people every day. This is true.

No one should use that as justification for turning a blind eye to POLICE killing
people every day.

I've said it multiple times and I'll say it again

POLICE ARE NOT JUDGE, JURY, AND EXECUTIONER.

They should be held to a higher standard than criminals they are supposed to be policing.

I seriously hate the "people are murdered every day, get over it" rhetoric

A blind eye? The officer deserved to be arrested and charged with murder. As any murderer. Thankfully he was. Hopefully he'll be punished appropriately.
