Cordyceps grow
They have been in fruiting conditions for a couple of days and have started to orange up nicely.  My first time with these

This one is coming out to be the best looking of this culture, any tips on cloning it?

What are those Cordyceps? Wikipedia says they grow from dead insects? :crazy2:

Cordyceps are just a different kind of fungus that are parasitic and grow from bug pupae. I don't think mine are going to fruit, they have been in fruiting conditions for 14 days without much change in the last 7 days or so.

Remember that unless for some odd reason you actually started from spore, you are already working from a proven culture and cloning a fruit would be entirely pointless.

Right on, I guess I was kinda thinking along the lines of isolating specific characteristics in cubes when you clone from large clusters or such.  So are the differences in appearance in cultures caused by slight variations in fruiting environments? I have a few different cultures going in the pics, but one is more variable in its appearance.

The differences in appearance among the same culture?  Mostly yeah, just little variations in environment I imagine.  You could clone from a fruit but you'll just end up with the exact same culture you started with, with it's little variations.  Totally something you wanna do though if you're working from a multispore grow though, like you would with cubes.

Reishi is a cool one to watch what it does in response to it's environment.  I worked with the same culture a LOT back when I grew them, and it was amazing how many different things it would do.  Start comparing with a different culture and even more differences show up!

I'm currently growing curtisii, lucidum, sessile, and one identified just as red reishi from the vendor. The red reishi seems like it varies more in its appearance in different blocks.

Thanks for taking the time to respond

Ah, see now you're talking completely different species not just different strains/cultures of the same mushroom.  Semantics get confusing

Pics aren't the greatest shooting through the plastic, but some of my cordyceps have started to fruit.  Changed a few things in my grow area and they have seamed to respond to the changes.  Too bad I didn't figure it out before I messed up the majority of my grow.  But now I know for the next batches.

Wow, nice!  Those look like some fun cultures to work with.  I really like those ridges of color on the conks in pic4.  Some thick antlers too

More cordy pics on one of my best tubs

Some reishi I harvested today, some were covered in a layer of spores, seams like when that happens they lose some of the shellac coating look.

Wow, they look wonderful!! Yellow Reishi? I remember my grandmother grew similar mushrooms when I was growing up. It's very nostalgic. I never asked her about it. I didn't like mushrooms back then.  Would you mind sharing your spawn, substrate, grow process?

Mycroom- not yellow but red and sessile, grain spawn, sub is hardwood pellets and bran or pellets and soy hull pellets, fruited in a grow tent

Chemical spark- im kinda just stocking them up until I get a soxhlet extractor to go to town on the majority, but until then I have been doing a few hot water extractions in my crockpot

Forrester- thank you sir!! Do you think the spore load is contributing to the dull appearance?
