I have gotten lazier with the flow, I'll even talk while I do transfers. I feel like the CFM coming out of my mouth is going to be overpowered by the hood.I have thought about putting sides on my flowhood, what are peoples thoughts on sides/ no sides?
The question of sides is something that has always confused me. I see a lot of builds, and even commercial edible producers using hoods with no sides. I come from a medical/ lab background and all our hoods have sides. Sides help promote laminar flow further from the filter face, but much more importantly they prevent dirty air from being pulled into the airstream. When I build my hood, I will definitely be adding sides.

Interesting. I'm debating on adding some plexiglass sides to mine. How did you attach your sides Nate?

Do you need to wear anything extra for FH? Like a mask, tyvek top, or any other stuff?
It is still a good idea to wear freshly laundered clothes,
I havent done that in 10 yrs. I used to take em straight out of the dryer and into a fresh garbage bag for use before sterile work but lately Ill do transfers right after working in the garden or harvesting no problem. lost 1 out of my last 200 bags

Whether you're in front of a hood or a SAB your clothes are separated from your work area by either being down stream from laminar flow or separated by a the walls of a tub, not only that but your freshly laundered clothes are still contaminated by your environment, fresh or not makes little difference.

Nice finish!!
I love the angled, clear sides on mine. Patterned my design off a super nice one i saw in a lab supply store

Honestly I don't either haha. I just wanted to give him a list to start our with. I don't really find it necessary either but when you are just starting out I think it's good practice to keep your person clean

Whatever works for you to get clean spawn!
I use a surgical mask, gloves and sometimes Tyvek sleeves. Were constantly shedding dead skin cells with bacteria. I have few pairs, I just roll them up sterilize in grain jars for 15 min, store them in ziplock bags. Probably overkill but it's simple enough.
Depends on what I'm doing really - for G2G I pull out all the stops. For something like agar trabsfers, not so much

Picked these up while searching high and low for more shoe boxes. I don’t know what aspect of coronanoia drives people to stock up on sterilites but the struggle is real. anyway it led me to this little hardware store that had these “Meat Claws”
They’re 1K x better for mixing bulk sub than my hands or other flimsy spaghetti spoons and stuff I’ve used. I wish they had them a little longer but these worked out great yesterday.

My spot was out of shoeboxes last week too, blew my mind. Usually there’s piles of them.
I’m starting to think everybody is secretly into cult. Quart jars have been hard to come by for months and now the tubs.

Lol the jars and accessories I understand because middle class white folks get nervous real easily and they all think they can buy a Martha Stuart canning guide or something and go off grid during the apocalypse.
The tubs blew my mind too though. Like all sizes of tubs were literally gone. Just some lids left on the shelf

No pics but you may find a cement paddle mixer on low speed quick to mix tubs.
Quickest I've found.
