I think someone could make a perfect theme song for ya ghosty.

Take Ocean Man by Ween and replace the word ocean with mushroom.
Mushroom man, take me by the hand, lead me to the land that you understand
Mushroom man, the voyage to the corner of the globe is a real trip
Mushroom man, the crust of a tan man imbibed by the sand
Soaking up the thirst of the land

Maybe change a few other words but it fits and I know you like ween lol.

Haha sorry for the derail.

Love this! Thanks FSH

Nah chants aren't really an indicator. They're everywhere really. I've found that with woodland weilii bamboo grass is a decent indicator, although you really have to be on hands and knees to find them under it

If youre finding, Lacrymaria in the right habitat theres a good chance of finding actives, theres a few others, I can seem to recall at the moment around my patches.
The good Doctorghostly had a list of a few  others last years thread as well as indicators your in a too dry area.

@HumbleHunt Those are some blue weilli! The contrast with the chanterelles is lovely.

More from the farm:

Interesting that all of these were found growing from Bermuda grass that seemed to be fertilized with cow poo. Not necessarily from the patties themselves.

Wonderful morning here in Gwinnett. Found another spot. Thankfully, this one is within walking distance of my house. The funny thing is, if you check my most recent ID request, you'll notice I was in the EXACT same location, only two days prior and completely missed these guys. Some were within a foot or two from where I was!

You'll notice Habitat checks all boxes for what you should be looking for.
1. Recently disturbed
2. Red clay
3. Inclined/sloping land
4. Sweet Gum/Pine

Nice job finding those muddy buddies. Those look really easy to miss. I’ve marked a few habitats just like this on my map but my strategy is to check these in September/October when they are easier to find. Of course, if I see you guys pulling big hauls I’ll be out there myself.

Sounds like a swell plan to me. A lot of the woodland areas I scoped out in the fall/winter of last year are hardly accessible now with all the new plant growth.
Also google maps helps to locate forest clearings like this. Sometimes you can zoom in and even see the sewer caps.

Hi y’all. New poster, but I’ve been lurking for a while. I decided to make an account today to ask for opinions about a hunting site. This is my mother’s property in Walton county.

One area is on a wooded hillside that slopes down to a small creek. The hillside was logged/cleared of most of the trees about 3 years ago. Most of the pines were removed, leaving mostly hardwoods. However a lot of new sweet gum and pines are popping up. There are also a good many uprooted trees from storms (especially from earlier this week), that leave exposed red mud

The second is an area that was excavated about 3-4 years ago for a pond but was never finished. Lots of red mud, new sweet gum, pine, and briar growth. There’s a spring in the area, also.

Have there been Weilii found in Walton county? Do these seem like decent areas to hunt? I’ve looked over a couple of times the last few days and have only found rubber cups, chants, and *i think* a psathyrella species.
Hopefully I am adding the photos properly. Thanks everyone! Happy hunting!
