ideal environment for rooting trichocereus cuttings

i have just potted my bolivian torch (30cm) and my san pedro (10cm) cuttings ready for them to root, but i have read a lot of conflicting information on the best environment to store them in.
my understanding is that they should be in a shady area, not in direct sunlight. too much sun will make them grow upwards, but they will take longer to root and will cause them to thin.
is this correct? at the moment i intend to keep them indoors, in the middle of a room on the north side of the house, so they are getting light, but not a lot and certainly no direct sunlight at all. is that okay? the room is the coolest in the house, would that still be okay for them? i assume the temperature requirements are the same as rooted trichs?
this also makes me wonder, are they better off rooting in the dark? i could keep them in a completely dark room with no windows if necessary, but there is a risk of damage in there that i would prefer to avoid.
any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks <3

Not enough light causes thin growth. I'd just start acclimating them to more light now, starting with bright shade, working towards the most sunny spot they can be in, potted up in a dry soil mix. Unless dehydrated, I don't give them much special attention, maybe skip them when watering all others for the first time.
In winter, a clay pot in a south facing window works for me.
It is easy to check for roots, usually are ready for potting up come spring. Could do it like this in summer as well.
Warm and bright, not cool and dark.
Although, I left this one on a north facing windowsill one winter and got a row of roots

I put my well calloused cuttings in dry soil and leave them for a few days in dappled shade on my deck. After a few days I give them a slight watering, to start to dampen the soil. Every few days I increase the watering until I'm watering them normally. Once they feel well anchored, usually 3 or 4 weeks, I move them out with the adults. Warm shady areas, or under a deck roof is fine for rooting.
I would not try to root them inside during summer. Cool and dark is for when you want to keep them more dormant.

I dust cuttings in sulfur, then put them in totally dry medium in a root pouch or if its a pereskiopsis de-graft, in a hydroponic netted cup. Bright light and heat, but no direct sunlight, it will burn quickly.

thanks for the help.
i had read these replies, but couldnt log in at the time so didnt reply. i planned to take the advice, but my wife thought she was helping and put them out in the sun. they were only out there for a few hours but i think it may have effected the san pedro.
i am going to start another thread about it though. i will edit the link in here when i have posted it.
thanks for the help <3
