Purple Mystic Cakes not Pinning
    #26741483 - 06/13/20 09:49 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

This is the first time I have got so much trouble trying to make some very healthy looking cakes pin.

I have grown many strains with the pf tek however trying to grow these purple mystics has been a challenge. The first set of 12 that finished colonizing were put in the SGFC after a 24 hour soak and roll in Verm. I kept them in for about a week with no pins and the cakes got dry so I soaked them again. This time they stayed in the terrarium for around a week and a half. No signs of contamination just mycelial growth over the Verm and no pinning.

I have looked around the forums and most people say this a problem with FAE. I was previously growing them in the basement which has little air exchange and they are now in my closet which I can open plenty of times to exchange air. I have also previously grown Treasure Coast P.C in the same SGFC in the basement though which produced some nice fruits. It is only when I put in the purple mystics that the pinning started having trouble.

I just put in another set of 14 cakes that just finished into a terrarium with some holes in the bottom and around the sides. Here are pictures of both SGFC's. Can I dunk the orginal cakes a thrid time in hopes of fruits? Take a look.

Neither of those are SGFCs. A SGFC has 1/4" holes drilled in a 2 x 2" pattern on all *six* sides, "5 damp perlite and it gets lifted up off the surface with something like bricks or soups cans under the corners. That is how they are built to work properly.

FAE is passive and needs to be happening all the time. It happens thru the holes in the container.

I would give that a try if fruiting cakes this way.

You are growing different cube varieties, not strains. Golden Teacher for example and Purple Mystics grow exactly the same way because they are the same species, the only differences might be cosmetic.

So you think I could dunk the old cakes again?

I will also elevate the terrariums now.

I think the foil might be too big too.

But purple mystic is newer and some of the older threads I read about it they were having a tough time getting it to fruit well.

It’ll prob take a little longer than normal and I wouldn’t expect an amazing yield from it but it’s supposed to be potent.

You could if you want, you could also set them in saucers of water overnight.

I would add holes to your FC though. 1/4" holes in a 2" x 2" grid pattern on all six sides
