Noobie here
    #26741257 - 06/13/20 07:51 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Hey guys so my spore prints are going to arrive soon and right now im planning things ahead. Ive done a lot reading on shroomery but still im confused as hell so please help me out if you can
This is what ive understood till now :
First im going to do the agar tek for the mycelium growth.
Then im going to pasteurise rye berries and put them in jars and then pressure cook them
After then im supposed to put the agar wedges inside the jars and wait for the mycelium to grow and then shake after 30% colonisation?
Now i want to grow bulk in monotub so my question is should i just crumble the colonised jar and put it in monotub and what after that? Im really confused what to do after the colonised jar step. Any links would be very helpful. 🙏
Sorry for my bad English

Sounds good. I don't know about rye berries, but are you sure you need to pasteurize first before pressure cooking, which sterilizes?
After the jar is colonised you just spread all the berries/grains evenly into your bulk sub, typically at a ratio from 1:1->1:2. Also a top layer of coir or coir verm is often recommended. However, this is very controversial it seems. Just use coir/verm if doing toplayer/casing.
This is called casing if done after the surface is colonised (so far as I understand it).
This helps in noob grows especially to get the good surface conditions for pinning.
I don't know where this quote is from but here it is:
”There are actually benefits of using a casing layer with cubes. I would say use a top layer of coir or coir/verm for you first few grows you will not be disappointed. Try making one tub with and one without and you'll see what I mean. But when you have all the basics down and know exactly how to maintain proper conditions without a casing layer then you can get equally good results. One is not "better" than the other but it is wrong to say that the casing layer does not have benefits for cubes, it simply does. One benefit is that it protects the substrate from drying out too fast and second it creates ideal micro climate for developing pins. Of all the tubs I have done, tubs with a casing layer have always outperformed the tubs without. Still im not saying you cant have the same results without, just saying there are benefits to having a casing layer if you are not 100% comfortable with tweaking and managing the substrate surface. I can leave my tubs for two days and never have to worry about the substrate drying out too quick. ”

You seem to have a good understanding already and your plan sounds solid. Just get the knowledge what to do in each phase.

I think he means to let the grains/berries soak prior to sterilization. And in that case yes. Just leave them in water for 6-12 hours or just simmer them for 20 minutes or something. Just find a grain prepation tek and follow it.

just follow these teks: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24761870#24761870
