Liner in tub
    #26738952 - 06/12/20 08:01 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Hi please advise
If I ad a liner to shoe box after colonization and before pining.
Will it help to avoid side pinning?
And u know when is side pinning desided upon in the growing phase?

You have to add the liner before you make the tub, the myc sticks to it when it colonizes.

From what I understood liner is to hold off the light.
I meant to liner around the tub from outside

Side pins aren’t caused by light. Blocking light won’t stop them. You stop them by maintaining proper surface conditions and having a level, even substrate. Or, you put a liner between the substrate and tub (inside, not outside). The liner can be clear, it’s not there to block light.

IME outsider liner helps a little bit but it does not create a seal with the substrate where it sticks to it. Inside liner doubled works the best because you one sticks to the tub and one to the substrate. Results in zero sidepins for me.

Without any liner can work when you can ensure perfect upper surface conditions. My limited experience was that it works 50/50 between no sidepins and a lot.

Yeah, the best method I have found is to use an unopened trash bag, lay it on the bottom of the tub so it covers the bottom and comes up all sides. Dump your sub in, level it, dump spawn etc. Finally, trim the excess on all sides. Since the bag was unopened, you now have two separate liners. The inner one will stick to the sub/myc and the outer one will stick to the tub wall. It will prevent side pins and the liner shouldn’t pull away from the sub due to a sticky tub wall.

Ok thanks
So I understand it's more about blocking air and "suffocating" the parts I don't want pines coming out off?

If liner can be clear. Y do I get fruiting in closed bags where the plastic is stuck on the myc.?  This is in cubs and other eatable fungi

Because a closed bag is shit conditions for growing mushrooms.
