Victoria - Psilocybe subaeruginosa + rotting
    #26740465 - 06/12/20 08:03 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Habitat
Long grass beside forest

hey guys,
I was out last weekend after the rain and found a good batch of subs.
I have just a couple of questions about 2 types in particular.

1. I was sure these brown/ waterlogged looking ones were subs by the look and feel of them. If so are the still edible at this stage or too far gone?

2. This small dark one was in a patch amongst lighter standard looking subs, I was also pretty sure it was a sub and did blue up a lot.

Not sure where to post this but another thing, I went out today and found a lot that have aged, are these rotten and no good for consumption?
Im guessing yes though the stems are still solid.

Thanks in advanced.

Psilocybe subaeruginosa.
Make sure they all bruise blue.

For the waterlogged ones if they smell bad or fall apart easily then they’re too far gone.

For the first set, I have seen them like this before, if you dehydrate them the bluing should become more clear. I would say its a waterlogged sub by the looks of it.

The second one appears to be a sub as well, there's clear bruising it just looks weathered. Subs definitely have a particular feel to them too so if it feels like a sub and it ticks the boxes it probably is.

The last photos all appear to be subs just double check they bruise etc you can always do a spore print too. (double check the top left one though).

I would have to respectably disagree, definitely not too far gone, I've picked and consumed mushrooms in worse states with no issues or potency loss.

Thank you both quick replies.

Yeah subs seem to be like no other once you know what they are, its only my second season picking so I wanted to be sure.
I had a lot of colour variants this year but they felt and looked right.

so the ones in the last picture are fine to eat, is that classified as rot?
if not what are people referring to with rot?

also, I checked the top left, its blueing up, thanks.

Look I differ with a few people on here about how far rotten is too rotten, if it's not covered in creepy crawlies and still identifiable and you're gonna dehydrate them as most people do then i would say everything there is fine.
