Normal beginning cubensis mycelium?
    #26740978 - 06/13/20 01:50 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Have never grown cubensis so I’m not sure what the beginning of mycelium growth looks like. Does this look normal? It continues to grow a little everyday but it’s not the normal wispy like mycelium. What you all think?

I dont see any mycelium at all on any of those pics. it might be bacterial cause of the mushyness of the top of the cake. when did you inoculate?

The moisture content is too high in those jars.  Not seeing any mycelium.  Curious...what is the aluminum foil under the caps?

Also, dont invert your jars / move them around too much. they should ideally always be level, like a cup of water. you defeat the dry verm layer if its shaken about.

Those do look very wet, I cannot notice anything either that I would recognize as mycelium.
I get first signs of mycelium growth in about 4 days right where most of the inoculant came out of the syringe, initially as little light colored fluff balls which gradually grow out into patches that eventually take over the substrate over the course of about 3 weeks.

These jars came in the mail and claimed to be 100% sterilized and ready to inoculate. Didn’t say anything about taking off the aluminum foil I assumed it was there to keep moisture. Do you guys think the jars are crap? Should I start over with my own substrate so I know what’s actually in there? I saved about 2cc of each strain for this reason.

Yep. The wetness in those jars is setting you up for failure, I would personally just make my own jars (assuming you can sterilize them) so I could keep track of every step of the process.

(If you only have 2 cc left agar is calling your name!!) although if you do agar don’t be like me and squirt what feels like 3 cc into your first dish on accident

u were set up for failure by buying premade. most of that shit is terrible quality made by complete morons that dont give a shit and are only after a quick buck from ppl that dont care to put in the effort of doing it themselves. but if u must buy premade u should expect a very high contam/failure rate. that crap is a total gamble. making your own is so much better and very easy to do especially if ur goin the pf tek route. but those jars u may as well just toss them cuz i dont think they will do anything other than contam out. they are way wet and im confident in saying they will be very likely to go bacterial on u. if i were u id just go buy a 23 qt presto pc at a goodwill or other second hand type store. u can most likely pick up a pc and a dehydrator both for less than 50$ and im sure u spent more than that on those jars. but once u get those 2 items the rest of everything u will ever need is dirt cheap. plus u will have all the great info on here to help u along the way. belive me u will be happy u did it.
