Potentially used too little Spawn vs Bulk SS

Hi Guys,
Would love some advice on how to proceed with my mono tub.
I spawned about 2litre/quarts of BRF cakes into approximately 8litres/quarts and then split into two tubs and cased.
Its been 10 days and things have stalled up almost completely. I realise now I may have used too little spawn and if i have to start fresh I will.
On the off chance i could salvage it I would greatly appreciate some guidance.
I’ll attach some photos but I do believe both tubs are clear of any contams or issues just seems like there isn’t enough mycelium to go around.

TIA

Thats great news! Is anything I can do to help it consolidate or help it colonise? I did put it straight into fruiting conditions. Should i put the lid back on and give it some time to colonise for a few days?
Thanks again for having a look!

Looks a bit dry to me. Notice the light brown color of thew sub as opossed to a dark earth color. I'd say give it a light misting and keep it in fruiting conditions. As always wait for more responses and see what the real pros say.

I thought so too and gave it a good misting yesterday. Ive had a solo button pop up this morning.
I’m in absolutely no rush so more than happy to sit back and wait a couple weeks if need be.
Thanks for you input guys!

Are you leaving the monotube lids on or off? If they are off, that might be why your sub is dry (if its dry)

I did a very low spawn to sub ratio for my first two tubs, mostly just to get a feel for the process. Biggest thing I would stress is a need for patience. Things you read about taking a few days for other people can take over a week. As long as it’s not contaminated and your surface looks good, assume it’s working and be patient.

I leave the lids on. Cracked slightly to allow for some air exchange and fanned every couple of days. I have a very fine mister that i use when i notice the sub turning light brown.
Appreciate the need for patience. I now have one pin popping through in both tubs so i’m thinking ut may have been a bit dry!
I’ll post an updated picture shortly!

if you have holes or cracked lid (mono or shoebox)dont fan, you should have enough FAE anyways. You don't need to fan. You shouldnt even mist if the surface conditions are good. But if its on the dry side (light borwn color no small water beads on surface) then slightly mist and wait. Looking good.

So I’ve misted to get the Substrate back to being properly moist and andjusted the lids to reduce the FAE so as to not dry out again. I see now I’m still just working on dialing in the conditions.
I’ll post some pics below of the tubs after misting and showing how i’ve adjusted the lids to reduce the drying.
Tub 1 - 1 mushroom coming through can’t see any other pins just yet.
Tub 2 - one tiny pin started creeping through yesterday.
Cracked lids slightly.

Have I misted too much or is the surface conditions looking okay? I can’t see any pooling or droplets running on the wals of the tubs.
Thanks again all. Appreciate the help!

Agreed with other posts. Just be patient, it will colonize. Generally more spawn decreases colonization time. Since used a little, it will take longer, but it will colonize completely, eventually.

Still looks too dry, look at the third picture and you will see what I mean. Give it a heavy misting and mist the walls as well. Evaporation of moisture is a key pinning trigger but an overly dry substrate will give you nothing. I personally feel that many people over emphasize minimal misting. I believe moisture content of the substrate is very important but when it comes to misting you can really lay it on there just so long as there is no standing or pooling water.

Thanks Booted! I have been misting and keeping the surface glistenning along with reducing the opening of the lid.
This has seen loads of pins popping up over the lat 24hrs and my first, very lonely mushroom harvested.

Thanks to all on this thread for your advice and getting them back on track!

Just keep misting and fanning 2-3 times a day. More if needed. The little guys should be here soon.

Why would he fan? he has a mono, and it would just dry his sub. The consensus in the thread has been that moister has been low, not FAE. So just listen to what they told you previously OP

Fanning would cause evaporation which would trigger pinning?
I mist and fan my Mono's when needed?
Am I doing something wrong?
