Hello! I've been lurking on shroomery for a couple of months now and motivated myself to grow some golden teachers. I'm very new to pf tek and growing mushrooms in general, please bear with me if I don't fully know the lingo.
I received some spore syringes from a sponsor. I sterilized and already injected my cakes. This picture below is day 6 of being patient, and starting to get some good color.

One of my cakes has some black dots...I fear the worst. Is this a bad sign?

I live in a very dry area and am curious of the best method for my SGFC. I bought a repti-fogger to attach to it. I've been reading on here mixed reviews about them. I plan to spray and fan, but figured some extra humidity would be helpful. Is this overkill?

This gives you an idea of temp/humidity where the SGFC might be placed.

I'd love any feedback/tips/tricks as my mycelium takes hold. Thanks!

Looking pretty decent. The black dots could be vermiculite or spores. Keep an eye on it thou.
Nice pick with the jars.
You made your PF mixture a tad too wet. Use less water next time. Should be damp not wet.

Thanks, appreciate the tip. Glad to know it's not an obvious contaminant

Black mold is the closet thing it could be but to me, it looks more like specks of spores or vermiculite. Some vermiclite is black in color, sorta like a shinny, iridescent black. If you are curious, inspect your bag of dry vermiculite, you will likely find black specks of material.

Holy crap I love this thread because my jars look EXACTLY like this and I was literally going to make a thread asking the same thing with pictures of jars that look just like yours.

Give it time. Myc is fucking strong. If it grows thru your jar and is a nice solid white then your good, but if it doesn't grow, or instead grows into a different color all together then I definitely would seperate the infected cake before opening it and go from there. In this case, Time is all you got and it doesn't even exist. Just watch and see

You all are the best! Thanks for the positivity.
Zena! Glad you are in this with me. I'll post a pic when they get a little more myc action.
CactiCHris, the spots are just to the side of one of the innoc holes. Good thought I'll keep an eye on it to see what happens. I'm really excited!
mrsmoxalot, appreciate the tip ! Time makes me enjoy this process even more. I get to see these babies evolve.

For my SGFC, do you all think this is overkill with the spray / fan technique and fogger?

Yes. the fogger might still be usefull outside the sgfc to get the humidity level up if its a dry day but all you need is moist perlite and your cakes in the chamber for it to be passively automated.
