Over growing agar plates
    #26740010 - 06/12/20 04:42 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Hey folks I think I’ve been making some bad habits. Sometimes I just don’t have the time to do agar transfers and I end up growing plates all the way to the edges and and up the walls. None seem to contaminate, that’s usually caught well before I let a plate go this long. I’ve got some good 5th gen transfers getting close to the full plate but I’ve got to go in a travel assignment before I can use it in a LI or transfer. Is the refrigerator a good way for someone who travels a lot to save a good clean plate and stunt the growth for use later? Any tips from you guys who have to travel a lot and leave you stuff behind would be helpful. I’ll be gone 10-12 days starting tomorrow. Agar plates ready now and 3 shoeboxes that are 5 days old. Bods simple grocery bag tek. Thanks for any info.

I'm no expert, but I have a fridge just for this purpose. If a plate is ready before I can use it or if I just have better luck with germ plates than I expected I put them in the fridge.  My experience is that they will dry out so thicker agar pours and maybe sealing in a ziplock or something might be useful.  So far it has made life much easier.  30 days is probably the oldest I've actually used, but I've had zero trouble with it.
