Mist on my casings
    #2673661 - 05/13/04 01:19 PM (19 years, 11 months ago)

I have two casings in a fruiting chamber with perlite on the bottom. The humidity is up and temp is fine, the mycellum growing ontop of the cakes has very very very fine bits of mist on them, is this harmful in anyway to the growth of the mycellum and the formation of pins? If so how can I combat this? Thanks all, peace one love.

Should be okay unless you have fat droplets on your shrooms or something. Those can cause your mushrooms to get contaminated and unedible, assuming you are in a country where you could eat them legally in the first place. Of course, the whole idea of growing hallucinogenic mushrooms is purely hypothetical anyway.

I don't think its a bad thing, I think you're supposed to mist casings every now and then actually. You just dont want to have mist or water on your mushrooms once they start pinning/growing. Also i think you aren't supposed to have perlite if you're doing casings, for they provide their own humidity. Im somewhat new to all this though so you might wanna wait for a second opinion.

I mist directly on my casings until it pins, misting the side is only for getting the humidity to rise I thought. By directly I mean that I hold the spray bottle back a ways and send a light mist til it looks to have the right moisture. If you just misted the sides wouldnt the center of your casing dry out?

Go ahead and mist up until the time they pin.

These were misted and turned into these

Dont mist casings directly. Will cause overlay. Mist the sides of the terrarium.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. I always mist my casings directly (well I did untill I stopped growing) and I never got overlay.
