First time grower - white fuzz, bruising, and blue ring
    #26736760 - 06/11/20 12:32 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Hi, noob here. Growing for the first time using PF-tek. Everything seems good except:

1. There is white fuzz growing at the base of stems. From other posts it seems like it's mycelium. Is it safe to consume? I have already reduced humidity and increased FAE to see if it makes a difference.
2. Cake is turning gray/blue-ish (in pictures). If not contamination, what is the reason for it? How can I fix it?
3. Edge of the cap is also forming a blue ring - is that expected?
4. I dunked n rolled the cake, but I'm not seeing full flush. Any suggestions to how can I get a full flush next time?

Thank you!!

hey man!! welcome to the shroomery!!

i can't click to enlarge the pics for whatever reason, but judging based on what you're describing...

1. you're right; that's mycelium. the colloquial for it is 'fuzzy feet.' usually means they want more FAE. it's totally safe to consume, & i've noticed mine disappear completely after harvesting & drying. giving them more FAE is a good move. you don't wanna let them dry out either so make sure to keep up with misting if they need it

2. could be contamination bc i can't see pics, but usually blue is bruising. i think cakes have a tendency to bruise. they may bruise from being handled, or from drying out. i believe they can bruise from heavy direct misting as well? maybe not. i never grew cakes. but my guess is that they may be drying out a little

3. i think i had some mushrooms like what you're describing on a few flushes. i think you're fine? lol it probably won't grow if it's contaminated or something. if it doesn't look slimy & grows to maturity you're most likely good to go

4. dunno shit abt cakes when it comes to this srry!!

you look like you're doing well for a first time grower

Everything looks pretty good from what I can see. That’s a pretty standard flush for a spore syringe to a cake. If you want tons of fun you have to grow in bulk. Agar, grains, and coir will hook you up forevs.

The cakes are getting dry which is causing the bruising. You have to find a happy medium with air/humidity. Are they in a shotgun fruiting chamber? If so, if built properly you don’t need to fan. It does that automatically. You just need to keep the humidity level up with misting. A little mycelium on the feet isn’t a bad thing and those look fine. Some have it naturally, it’s when it gets denser that’s you’ll want to increase fae, but shouldn’t have that issue in a sgfc.
