JOBS/COVID

Scenario: the boss you work for wants to go to one of the most infected places in the USA right now to "help" (I'm guessing his career/image/ego etc...) and will be there for 2 weeks. You just found out a couple of days ago and he's leaving the coming weekend. They have no plan in place for quarantining themselves when they get back. They are not going to pay you for the time off unless you take your PTO. They have gotten that business loan that covers things. Would you say you will not come back in to work if they are there for 2 weeks? Would you bring this up to the boss(s) who are going there? Would you consider the time the boss leaves for 2 weeks your 2 weeks notice?

My wife was going to do something similar but ultimately decided against it. She has been working with COVID patients here at home anyway (in after birth care at that).
But I wouldn't quit personally. Rather than going the route of putting your two weeks in on the fly, there are more collected ways to suggest a quarantine procedure for people returning. But, if you're genuinely worried about it for your own safety, then perhaps put your two weeks in for the peace of mind. In the grand scheme of things though, at least one of your patients in the coming months are probably just as likely to be carriers as healthcare personnel returning from out of state will be. Kind of a sunk cost rule in there somewhere.

Ya. I left safe ass Canada to go to one of the most infected counties in the USA for the mutherfuckin money. And it ain't no 2 week thing. I'm here for 4 months, and the boarder is closed with quarentine procedures, so I can't go back to Canada any time soon. Probably not for months. I don't think they'll open up the boarder until at least October.
So here I am. If I book any time off I can't go home, but I can go anywhere in the USA. Merica, fuck ya.

I asked him about that and he stated that he will get the antiviral before he gets on the plane claiming that if the test is negative he is very sure that it's a negative covid sign. Also said that once the virus is in you that a antiviral test will show within hours if it's contracted. I asked what if he gets it on the last day he's there? No concrete answer to that.

It is a smaller office, and people have been quarantining at home if they felt sick or had a cough, fever etc.... A lot of them are older and don't have parties and a lot of friends over etc...Now someone could have it off the street walking in, and I get in a small elevator a few times a day, so that could happen then. I'm not quitting (it would really suck right now to be looking for employment I think), but I did express my concerns very strongly. I'm more concerned with my mate as he has respiratory issues.

I'm in a city with a lot of infections, go into homes, ride the subway, go shopping, and everything else. I wear a mask and do hand sanitizer a lot. I'm still good. I wouldn't quit. I would make sure to suit up and stay clean. Tell boss man to be considerate of employees. If the job sucks anyways then may as well look for another gig.

PCR nasal swabs for SARS-Cov-2 false negative 33% percent of the time. False positive less than 1%.... it's not a great test.

The roads into this New Mexico town remain closed as lockdown is extended to slow Covid-19 outbreak Hollie Silverman By Hollie Silverman, CNN
Updated 1:17 AM ET, Mon May 4, 2020 A lockdown of the city of Gallup, New Mexico has been extended until Thursday. A lockdown of the city of Gallup, New Mexico has been extended until Thursday. (CNN)The lockdown of the city of Gallup, New Mexico, has been extended for an additional three days due to an outbreak of coronavirus.
An emergency declaration was issued Friday and set to expire noon Monday, but on Sunday, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced that the lockdown would be extended until at least Thursday to help quell the spread, a statement from her office said. A statement from Grisham's office said that Gallup Mayor Louis Bonaguidi requested the extension "to continue the aggressive physical distancing in the community and thus mitigate transmission of Covid-19." Riot Control Act invoked Content by CNN Underscored Your guide to buying used iPhones Breaking or losing an iPhone is a major pain, but there are a few options that won't break the bank for replacing it with a used or refurbished model. Gallup sits along historic Route 66 in McKinley County, about 20 miles from the state's border with Arizona. To the north lies the Navajo Nation and to the south the Zuni Reservation. That northwestern portion of the state represents the highest number of cases, according to a map provided by the New Mexico Department of Health. Due to the high case count Gov. Lujan Grisham invoked the State's Riot Control Act to shut down the city of Gallup on Friday. Amid coronavirus, tribes say they aren't getting help they need from federal government Amid coronavirus, tribes say they aren't getting help they need from federal government "The spread of this virus in McKinley County is frightful," Lujan Grisham said when the emergency was declared last week. "And it shows that physical distancing has not occurred and is not occurring. The virus is running amok there. It must be stopped, and stricter measures are necessary." The act authorizes the governor to prohibit people from being on or using public streets and highways during a temporary state of emergency. As a result, all roads into the city have been closed. The Gallup City police and the McKinley County Sheriff's Department have partnered with state police and the department of transportation to enforce road closures. The New Mexico National Guard has also been called into to support the efforts in a non-law enforcement capacity, a release from the governor's office said. Other restrictions in Gallup include a limit of only two people per car and businesses are only operating between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. All residents are encouraged to stay in their homes unless they need to leave for an emergency. Highest case count As of Sunday night, 1,144 people had tested positive for coronavirus in McKinley County, a count which increased by more than 100 cases in just four days. 3,850 positive cases and 151 deaths have been reported statewide, according to the New Mexico Department of Health website. Mayor Bonaguidi said in a letter Sunday to Gov. Lujan Grisham that the extension of the act was needed to fight the continued spread of the virus. "The virus has caused many deaths, stretched our medical facilities and resources to their capacity, and adversely impacted the welfare of the City of Gallup," Bonaguidi said. "Our community is unable to adequately address the outbreak without the continued imposition of certain restrictions necessary to regulate social distancing, public gatherings, sales of good, and the use of public streets."
