Question about WBS Jars
    #26734607 - 06/10/20 02:37 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Do these look ready for a good shake? I did not isolate all the way down to a monoculture, but I did quite a few transfers to obtain the fastest growing mycelium out of my multiapore collected from a Golden Teacher spore print. The one on the right leaves a bit to be desired, and I probably won't use that one as a master. Thoughts? Opinions? Thank you in advance.

Go ahead and shake them. I like doing it at about 1/4th colonization but it all works, even the one on the right. Just make sure you shake enough to break clumps

Yeah those are way past shakeable.

i think the seeds might be slightly over hydrated. I was making mine too wet for a long time and didn’t know it. The growth is much fluffier and a little quicker with drier seed.

I think you guys are correct in that the grains are over-saturated. Live and learn. I shook those puppies up and after a few days am left with what is shown below. Would it be wise to use the really thick fluffy growth ones as master jars, do you think? It looks like I have two that look pretty good, two that are mediocre, and three that shit the bed.

I think your assessment is solid.

Last ones are garbage for sure, wet/bacteria.

The middle two I would let the one finish colonizing and then spawn them each to a shoebox or into the same tub but wouldn’t mix them with good jars.

The first two seem fine imo.

Thank you for the input. I'm having a particularly hard time getting the clump to break apart. Do you think this is a byproduct of the over-saturated grains? I might just use each good jar for a shoebox and start fresh from a new petri dish. Can't use the jars as masters if I have one solid mass stuck in the jar haha.... I don't have any experience with shoeboxes yet, and that would be a good way to start.
