Spore print question
    #26733318 - 06/10/20 03:27 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Is it okay just to wipe the mushrooms on some white paper to quickly show the colour of the spores or is there a good reason to leave it overnight with a glass covering it?

You're better off leaving it overnight, as the true color of a print often requires a significant spore deposit.

On the other hand, you might be able to get a quick indication on the color by using a cotton swab or similar.
This is less practical if you got a mushroom with light colored spore deposits, such as Russula, but works with
genera like Agrocybe, Panaeolus, Psathyrella etc.

Yes, It Says Mycologist Under Doc's Username & He Is A Trusted Identifier. The Shroomery Doesn't Just Let Random Folks Throw Those Titles Around

Well, technically anyone could call themself a mycologist. It's the trusted identifier part that really matters

Yeah but they get called out fairly quick and fairly aggressively.

I mean, I guess people could harass them for it, but would mods ever make them change it?

As you can tell by the presence of the word "Mycologist" beneath my name, I am a legit mycologist, and I can tell you that to properly examine those spores, you're going to need to view them under a kaleidescope

The Mods May Or May Not Make Them Change It, I Have No Idea. However, If Someone Was Giving False/Misleading Information That Could Poison Someone, & Claiming They Are A Mycologist At The Same Time, I'm Sure The Mods Would Step In.

I'll Know If I'm Talking To An Actual Mycologist By What They Say & How They Say It. Just Like I'll Know If Im Talking To A Noob MH Or An Experienced MH.

Yeah, YOU'LL know. My point was that people shouldn't assume they're necessarily getting good advice because the person giving it has "Mycologist" beneath their name. Anyone can do that. And by the time they've given their 1st piece of bad advice, they could already have gotten someone poisoned. The TI badge is all that really matters

I Agree, But If You See Someone With "Mycologist" Under Their Username & They Don't Have The TI Badge, That's A Red Flag Right There. "If They Are A Mycologist Why Don't They Have The TI Badge?" Is The First Question That Would Come To My Mind.

I think far too many people in the mush cult forum call themselves mycologists
