Condensation in my jars
    #2667883 - 05/12/04 08:27 AM (19 years, 10 months ago)

Hi,
My jars are about 80-90% colonized and have some condensation in them. I innoculated them through tape I used to cover the nail holes in the jar lids. I have removed the tape on a couple of the jars to let out some of the humidity. The strain is John Allens and they've colonized amazingly fast.
The jars are being stored at 70-72 degrees.
My questions are this:
Will the condensation possibly cause mold?
Is it from CO2 buildup? I've heard that mycelium produces CO2...
If its a problem what should I do? take all the tape off, turn them upside down or what?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Take the tape off and turn them upside down.
If you have "alot"of condensation you can unscrew the lids a 1/4 turn, then place them upside down-this gives more room for air, thus reducing the rh.But watch and dont turn them too far,the lid will fall off-try not to move them after doing this, lessen your chances of contams.
You will have some condensation as is the norm.Do you have a pic?

You will be ok!

Thanks Doc,
I don't have a pic. My kids dropped my digital camera last week. damn kids, : )
Anyhow, its just some water droplets forming on the sides of the glass at the top where theres no BRF & verm.
I'll turn and flip.
Thanks again.

leave them alone. there always seems to be a bottle neck between 80% and 100% colonization. I think the doc is referring to a butt load of condensation and watery substrate..but if they colonized that much already, the condensation is expected and normal.
